General Sir John Monash, Personal Files Book 19, 4 June - 24 June 1918, Part 13

[[62?]]
23rd June. 8.
My dear General,
Although the date of the proposed operations
was yesterday tentatively fixed for July 2nd, I should
be glad if you could agree to July 4th being named as
the date.- On going more minutely into the details of
preparation with MACLAGAN, COURAGE and others, I think
that, from every point of view, it would be desirable to
have the two extra days for preparations and training.-
Also it would enable me to give MACLAGAN precisely those
Units which he prefers to have, which I think would be
best suited for the operation.
Yours sincerely,
[?] John Monash
General Sir H. S. RAWLINSON,Bt.GCVO.,KCB.,KCMG.,
Commanding Fourth Army.

GENERAL HEADQUARTERS,
BRITISH ARMIES IN FRANCE.
23rd June, 1918.
Dear General:-
Thank you very much for your letter of 21/6/18.
I am so glad to hear that you do not mind my sending
Press Representative to you from time to time. I have under
me four Press organisations :-
(1) British Press (C. i/c, Captain C.R.CADGE).
(2) Allied Press (C. i/c, Capt. R.E. de TRAFFORD).
(3) Neutral Press (C. i/c, Capt. E.K.KAPP).
(4) Cinematography & Photography
(C. ic/ Lieut. BARTHOLOMEW).
I give leave to the above named officers to arrange
interviews direct with Corps in order to save time, as all
press matters are invariably a race for time.
During active operations, our habit has been in
the past, to warn Armies that the regular Accredited Correspondence
(mostly British) are visiting their front, after which the
correspondents in charge of an officer, visit the staffs of
Corps, etc., with the view of getting the latest situation. For
all special visits by distinguished foreigners etc., I will give
you notice and warning.
Thank you so much for your kindness.
Yours Sincerely,
Neville Lytton
Major,
General Staff.
