ghuters 28 MA. 1918 4447303 Extract from LE FIGARO of Friday loth May. ------------- "These Australians of Generl 3IRDWOOD are amongst the most tish Ermy. They are the famous Anzaos magnificent soldiers of the Br of the terribla battle of GALLIPOLI. It is nearly four years eince they left their distant land! And what losses they have sustained 1 And not one single leavo ! Dut their spirit has remsined the samo as during the first days of the War. They would not defend theis own villages other than they ase defending ours. Our Country has become theirs. All the ideal nobility of our common cause dwells in the broad bosoms of these bronzed man, who have come from the Antipodes and resemble the warriors of the bas-reliefs of Egina. They and thei leaders when spoken to of AMIENs repeat the immortal words of the "poilus" at VERDUN - "They will not pass", T.C.

THIRD AUSTRALIAN DIVISION
Extract from LE FIGARO of Friday 10th May, 1918.
"These Australians of General BIRDWOOD are amongst the most
magnificent soldiers of the British Army. They are the famous Anzacs
of the terrible battle of GALLIPOLI.
It is nearly four years since they left their distant land!
And what losses they have sustained! And not one single leave ! But
their spirit has remained the same as during the first days of the
War. They would not defend their own villages other than they are
defending ours. Our Country has become theirs. All the ideal nobility
of our common cause dwells in the broad bosoms of these bronzed men,
who have come from the Antipodes and resemble the warriors of the
bas-reliefs of Egina.
They and their leaders when spoken to of AMIENS repeat the
immortal words of the "poilus" at VERDUN - "They will not pass".

Dear Sir John

I attach herewith

my draft proposals to

govern procedure in

future.

General Birdwood has

been through these and

generally approves.

He seems to desire that

GSO 3 & Staff Capts, should

come direct from Div Comdrs

as these are usually approved

as submitted,

If it will be convenient

for you I propose to come

to your H.Q. tomorrow

(Wednesday) at 3 o'clock.

Yours sincerely

T H, Dodds
