SECRET
During my next tour of duty in the line I propose
to carry out a small raid and should be extremely grateful
if you would allow an Officer who thoroughly understands
raids, if possible from the 10th Brigade, to be attached to
this Brigade for a week, in order to help the Unit with his
advice.
If you could allow this, the officer should report
at my Brigade Headquarters, WATOU, on Sunday, Fbeb. 24th. I would
send a car for him.

THIRD AUSTRALIAN DIVISION.
Divisional Headquarters,
17th. February, 1918.
My dear General, -
As I attach great importance to uniformity
of thought throughout my Division on important questions of
tactics, I have framed a memo on the subject of the tactical
employment of Machine Guns. - This is based upon the latest
teachings of CAMIERS School, and the pronouncements in
S.S. 192. -
I send you herewith a copy of my memorandum,
and shall be glad to have your criticisms if you can find time
to glance through it. -
Yours sincerely,
John Monash
