Tactics in attack - artillery

Counterbattery work more necessary than ever,- even in bad weather.

Preliminary Bombardment - destroy M.G. nests, + held localities

Use violent bursts of fire on the bivouacs hutments, + assembly of the counterattacking

troops.

Daily search all ground where M. Guns may be hidden.

Infantry must keep up to Barrage .

Use smoke in the forward 18pr. barrage.

Use back barrages irregularly

As soon as attack has been launched, we may slacken off Counterbattery work, &

use three guns for back barrage purposes ;- but ready h take it on again

if enemy artillery becomes troublesome.

Pauses in barrage recommended - to allow infantry to catch up.

Protective barrage must not be allowed to die down too quickly

It must not be too far away - otherwise enemy can assemble within it.
