CENTRAL REGISTRY
121/Drafts etc/2167 6th September 1916
Sir.
With reference to your letter No 138995 (G) dated
1st September, 1916, I am directed to forward for your
information the attached copies of telegrams despatched to,
and received from, the Government of the Commonwealth of
Australia.
The arrangements made for the despatch of drafts from
the 3rd Australian Division are noted.
It is not proposed to draw further on that formation
for drafts than circumstances demand, but from the numbers
at present coming forward, it seems probable that it will be
necessary to draw to some extent on the 5,460 reported by
you as becoming available between the 1st and 15th October.
Although it may not be necessary to take the full number.
A further communication will however be made to you
on this subject at a later date.
1 am,
Sir.
Your Obedient Servant,

37th, 39th, 42nd and 44th Battalions of your Division and the

It is feared that attached matter is
referred to me in error.
The 1398 Infantry drafts referred to
in my Q 79/1 of 1st instant as ready for service abroad by
2lst September have since that date, in pursuance of your
orders of 2nd September 1916, 3/3/7Q, been with others
transferred by me to the A.I.F. Training Centre, and the
fact of the completion of such transfer has already been
reported to you in my telegram of 9th instant (my number
Q/138).
These troops have therefore passed
out of my control, and under the control of the G.O.C.,
A.I.F.. Depots at Tidworth, and have, I believe, been
distributed by him, to his several training Battalions, in
accordance with their territorial origin.
With reference to copy of telegram,
marked C from SALAUSTRA to COMMANDETH, I desire to draw
attention to the later report by this authority, that he will
have ready for service, by 30th September, 7400 men (Infantry
only) - see his C.R., A.I.F. 6248 (a1 of 31st August 1916,
on your files.- This appears to be exclusive of the men
recently transferred by me to him.
