DIVISIONAL SPORTS ALL DAY.
30th. Sept. 1916
ADDITIONAL PRELIMINARY ANNOUNCEMENT
ENTRIES. Owing to the fact that a printed program will be prepared
for the day of the sports, the Committee is
desirous of having all entries in by 23rd. instant,
and therefore entries will close at 8 p.m. on that
day.
MOUNTED EVENTS. It has now been decided to delete the pig-
sticking event, and add an Officers jumping event.
Therefore the Mounted events, and conditions
appertaining thereto, are now:
1. Officers Jumping Competition.
For general riding ability and style. Jumps
over a 3' 6" rail fence (top movable) , 4' brush
fence, sandbag wall of 3', open ditch. The
course will be laid out a few days before the
Sports Day.
2. Officers tent-pegging. (Individual).
3. Officers section pegging (Teams of 4).
4. V.C. race (Teams of 4). Two flights of hurdles will
be included in this event.
5. 'Midnight Stakes'. Entrants to start with a
nightdress and cap with strings, in haversack.
First time past post to have dress and cap on, and
strings tied.. Second time past post to be carrying
saddle over arm. Nightdress, cap, haversack,
&c. to be supplied by competitor.
ADDITIONAL EVENT. A one mile event has been added, and as for most
other individual events, open to two nominations
from each Unit.
Entries for Mounted Events: 2s / 6d. individual. For team event:-
10/-. per team. Entry for all individual mounted events, 5/-.
The 'Midnight Stakes' and V. C. race are open to all ranks.
In events 1, 2 and 3, horses must be ridden by Officers.

FANCY DRESS ______________________
Most original and best maintained characters will receive prizes. Any
number of entries invited for this event.
MOUNTED EVENTS _____________

PRIZES _____________
Full xxxxxxx of prizes will be issued later.
The G.O.C. (Major General Monash) has been pleased to grant a general
holiday to all troops to attend the Sports. It is hoped that all Units and
Groups will hold Sports, or eliminating events, to source their best
representation.
Events open to all ranks unless otherwise stated. The bands will render
items throughout the day. Massed Bands will play at intervals.
SPORTS GROUND _____________
The Committee has now decided to hold the Sports at a site North of
Divisional Headquarters and in rear of Camp No. 11. Here a fine natural
amphitheatre with seating room for 20,000 is available. The Sports Secretary
or his representative will be found there most afternoons after 4.30. Du
the day at his office Room 1 Officers quarters 42nd Bn.near the 11th Bde
Headquarters, Camp No. 11. The Sports ground is being prepared from Tuesday
19th instant and various equipment will be available for those wishing to
practise.
GENERAL CONDITIONS
Entries for individual events limited to two nominations from
each Unit, and must be returned by the Brigade Sports representative
to Hon. Sec. Divisional Sports Committee, by 8 p.m. on Saturday 23rd
instant. All entries except for Mounted events are free.
The following considered a Unit from which two nominations for
xxxx individual events are allowed:-
- An Infantry Battalion.
- An Artillery Brigade.
- A D.A.C.
- Pioneers.
- The Field Ambulance combined.
- The Field Coys, Engineers combined.
- Divisional Train, Supply Column (M.T.) and other
Divisional A.S.S.C. Units, combined.
One entry or nomination from:-
8. Brigade Headquarters details, Brigade Machine Gun
Company, Brigade Trench Mortar Battery.
In such events as V.C.Race, Siamese race, Wheelbarrow race, entries to be made in pairs, and two nominations of pairs allowed as above.
Teams events :- Flag race and tug-of-war, limited to one team
from each Group and may represent the whole: i.e. picked from all Units
of the Group and not necessarily representing one Unit.
The Tug-of-war :- will take place on level ground without cleats
or footholds, and in service boots. Three pulls of three minutes or
six feet on either side.
Flag Race:- will be up and down in strings. Flags will be supplied.
In V.C. foot race no partner ( "patient" ) will be accepted as an
entry, who is under {9?] stone 7 lbs.
Dismounted alarm. One entry from each unit. Competitors will
run to given point and there assemble Infantry pattern equipment, and
put on coat, hat, puttees and boots.
Padre's Bicycle event - Open to every Chaplain in the Division.
