On the left bank of Meuse artiller activity intensified on both sides during day in reaion of Hill 304, and preparations for attack were noted in German trenches and checked by French curtain fire. On the right bank of mense the Germans continue to bombard the Trench positions at Vaux-Damloup, and, with particular violence, the fort of Vaux. A German attack lasting nearly 15 hours on the borders of the Boils Tumin, to the north--west of the fort was stopped by French machine guns. Aviation - About noon to day a number of German aeroplanes threw several bombs on Toul. Six persons were killed & 12 wounded. The material damage is of little importance. No military establishments have suffered. The French air squadron at Toul, having taken the air immediately, gave vigorous chase to the German acroplanes. One of these latter fell in the French lines at sansey, (12 kilos north of Goal), two other Guman machines hit by the French acroplanes maching- guns made a rapid descent in the OGerman lines. 3 German battle cruisers two of which

are believed to have been sunk the Derflinger

engaged by our battle fleet seemed to be

disabled and stopping the third seriously

damaged, one German Light cruiser and

6 German destroyers sunk. also two more

German Light cruisers seen disabled.

repeated hits observed on 3 other German
