INFORMATION.
1. The information obtained from aircraft photographs
concerning the hostile trenches to be entered,
and the results of the reconnaissances of the position
of "No Man's Land' to be traversed have been
communicated to all concerned
INTENTION
2. On a date and at a time to be notified later,after
a preliminary artillery bombardment, and destruction
of enemy wire, a raiding party from 14th Battalion
will enter hostile trenches at I.26.b.8½.7½. for
the purpose of:-
(a) Taking prisoners.
(b) Inflicting casualties.
(c) Capturing machine guns, trench mortars, etc.
(d) Destroying emplacements and dug-outs.
(e) Gaining information.
COMPOSITION OF PARTY
3. Total strength of party 6 Officers, 83 others,
including reserve of 11.
Commander; Capt. A. R. COX, 14th Battalion.

Appendix A.
PRELIMINARY MEASURES.
4. (a) DRESS. All ranks to wear British Amy Pattern
Uniforms. No Hats. Faces and hands blackened
Gas Helmets carried. Band of white material
three inches wide sewn firmly around each arm
above the elbow covered by a piece of khaki
clothloosely tacked on, latter to be torn off
before entering hostile trenches. Bayonets
sharpened and painted.
(b) ARMS & EQUIPMENT See Appendix B. All marks
on any article by which unit can be identified
to be obliterated.
(c) RECONNAISSANCE. All ranks to be made familiar
with means of approach to within 100 yards
of hostile wire, under guidance of Scout
Officer. Latter will carry out a careful
reconnaissance on the nights preceding the
attack.
(d) AID POST. R.M.O. of "B" Battalion to make all
arrangements and will have six spare stretcher
(manned) in Trench 58 near Sally Port.
(e) FINAL INSPECTION. Every member of the party
to be carefully inspected by Commander to see

that no man carries identity disc, papers, documents
or anything likely to be of value to the enemy.
(f) ASSEMBLY. At Row Avenue, l½ hours before Zero time.
(g) COUNTERSIGN. A countersign for all personnel leaving our

COMMUNICATIONS.
5. FOURTH BRIGADE Signals, acting in conjunction with Centre
group Artillery, will arrange to lay and frequently
test the following special telephone lines:-
(a) ADVANCED BRIGADE H.Q. to DUG-OUT OF COMMANDER.
(b) CENTRE GROUP ARTILLERY H.O. to LIAISON OFFICER
(Artillery)
(c) D.T.M.O. to MEDIUM TRENCH MORTAR BATTERY

6. The Code Signal that the raid will take place will be
as follows, and will be sent, (if practicable by
D.R.L.S.) to all concerned on the date fixed, the
time named in the message to be the Zero time.

Capt. F.B.Stanton, 14th Battalion, will be in
the vicinity ready to take over duties of Commander
should latter become a casualty.
O.C. Main Body will, after hostile trench has
been entered, direct operations from near point
of entry.
ACTION OF "A" & "B" BATTALIONS.
8. To avoid casualties, Front Line Trenches will be
thinned just before Zero time, portion of the garrison
withdrawing to Support line. Patrols and Listeners
to come in. Normal dispositions to be resumed
immediately after hostile artillery retaliation ceases.
Machine and Lewis Guns in covered emplacements, with
their detachments, remain in position. A close
observation to be kept on hostile trenches adjacent
to those under bombardment, with a view to bringing fire
to bear on any hostile activity.
ACTION OF MACHINE GUNS
9. O.C. No. 4 Machine Gun Coy makes following arrangements.
One gun to enfilade, by indirect fire, hostile
communication trench 50 yards to South of point of
entry.
One gun to enfilade, by indirect fire, hostile
communication trench 50 yards to North of point of
entry.
Firing of these two guns to commence at 0.05
Zero time and continue until our Artillery ceases.
Four guns disposed in temporary emplacements
in front line to engage any hostile machine gun which
may open fire on our party, either from hostile trenches
or from "No Man's Land', also to engage enemy
searchlights.
