SOPL SECOND ARMY (20t Wine Borfe) 848. O.A. 84. The following note on experience gained furing a recent raid is forwarded for your information. The raiding party, after successfully entering the enemy's trench, sent one party down the trench to the right and one to the left, killing some of the enemy and bombing dugouts. Both parties were stopped after going about 40 yards by blocks composed of sandbags and revetted with wood. Neither party was able to proceed further than the block. The enemy's trenches were 8 feet deep revetted with wood and no firestep was seen. The communication round the blocks appeared to be by means of dugouts; 1f this is ank so, exits from dugouts should be carefully watched during raids, otherwise part of the raiding force may be cut off in rear.
