Dear General,
I enclose
only statement I
could get. Had I
known he was
such a gallant
chap I would
have sent in
his name for
some reward.
Yours sincerely

To O/C A COY
15TH BATTN
SIR,
I was asked
by Lt. Carter, if I knew anythingconcern about Corp W.L. Harris.
On the morning of the 8th August
1915, Corp Harris was with me
when he was wounded through
the right arm and leg. He
continued advancing with the
platoon after being hit.
After that I missed him. and did
not see him again.
I heard later from Corp Swift
that Harris was again hit and
fell but again got up
and continued on toward the
front of Noll 60. We then had a
retirement back to Noll 60 and
in the retirement Corp Harris
was again hit and that was
the last seen of him

by
BRIGADIER GENERAL J. MONASH C.B..V.D.
Vommanding 4th. Australian Infantry Brigade
BRIGADE HEADQUARTERS

1. FOURTH AUSTRALIAN INFANTRY BRIGADE will relieve FIFTH AUSTRALIAN
INFANTRY BRIGADE in the Right Sector of Second Division Defences.

in the case of Lewis Gun Sections and No. 4 Light Trench Mortar
Battery) - on June 30th.
3. As elements of the Fourth Brigade go into the line, corresponding
elements of the Fifth Brigade come out into the billets so vacated.
Units of Fourth Brigade concerned are responsible to provide xxxx
the elements of the Fifth Brigade with guides to lead the relieved
parties to their billets. Vacated billets to be left in a
thoroughly clean and satisfactory condition.
4. The service of supply passes over with the Headquarters of the
Units, that is to say, each Headquarters looks after the rationing
etc of all personnel of either Brigade living in its Unit area.
5. Attached table gives the moves of the Fourth Brigade for each day.
Except where otherwise stated, the ingoing parties report at Fifth
Brigade Headquarters, H.17.b.1.9., at 9.30 p.m. on date named,
unless the officer of the party sent in advance receives other
instructions from Fifth Brigade, as per para 6.
6. Each ingoing party from each unit will send an officer in advance,
to Fifth Brigade H.Q., on the forenoon of the day of the move, to
ascertain if there are any special orders as to routes and times,
both for marching troops and vehicles.
7. G.O.C. Fifth Brigade remains in tactical command of the Sector until

9. Applications for withdrawal of Fourth Brigade working and other

predecessors.

The subjoined information as to the fate of No 603 Corporal
William Locke Harris, is supplied by LtCol. Cannon C.0
15th Battalion, Fourth Aust. Inf. Bgde:-
The information was gathered from Corporal H.F. Evans of
15th Battalion who states that on the morning of August
8th/1915 during the attack which the Fourth Brigade delivered
against the Abdul Rahman Bair, which in the northernmost
start of the Sati Bair Range at Gallipoli, he was with Corporal
Harris when he was wounded through right arm and right
leg. - In spite of his wounds he continued most gallantly
to advance with his platoon. - Corporal Swift of the same
Battalion relates that Corporal Harris was again hit shortly
after, & he saw him fall. - That was the last seen of him.
He was returned as "missing".-
As it is now certain that the Turks treated wounded
prisoners well, & carefully reported all their names to the
American Ambassador, & as Corporal Harris' name does not
appear on any list of prisoners, I am regretfully forced to the
conclusion that he was killed. -
