15TH BATTN
SIR,
I was asked
by Lt. Carter, if I knew anything
concern about Corp W.L. Harris.
On the morning of the 8th August
1915, Corp Harris was with me
when he was wounded through
the right arm and leg. He
continued advancing with the
platoon after being hit.
After that I missed him. and did
not see him again.
I heard later from Corp Swift
that Harris was again hit and
fell but again got up

and continued on toward the
front of Noll 60. We then had a
retirement back to Noll 60 and
in the retirement Corp Harris
was again hit and that was
the last seen of him
H.F Evans. LCpl.

The subjoined information as to the fate of No 603 Corporal
William Locke Harris, is supplied by LtCol. Cannon C.0
15th Battalion, Fourth Aust. Inf. Bgde:-
The information was gathered from Corporal H.F. Evans of
15th Battalion who states that on the morning of August
8th/1915 during the attack which the Fourth Brigade delivered
against the Abdul Rahman Bair, which in the northernmost
start of the Sati Bair Range at Gallipoli, he was with Corporal
Harris when he was wounded through right arm and right
leg. -  In spite of his wounds he continued most gallantly
to advance with his platoon. - Corporal Swift of the same
Battalion relates that Corporal Harris was again hit shortly
after, & he saw him fall. - That was the last seen of him.
He was returned as "missing".-
As it is now certain that the Turks treated wounded
prisoners well, & carefully reported all their names to the
American Ambassador, & as Corporal Harris' name does not
appear on any list of prisoners, I am regretfully forced to the
conclusion that he was killed. -
