EXTRACT FROM DIVISIONAL ROUTINE ORDER 1128 of 5.2.1918 :- Sohl O TR The following provisional scale of tents is Authorised:- Tents Complete: Circular, double, linen. 1 per General Officer. Circular, single, linen 1 per Field Officer, 1 per 2 other officers, 1 per 10 N.C.O's and men, and one per 2 Squadrons for Squadron Sergt-Mgjor and Squadron Quartermaster Sergeant. 30 Miscellaneous per Regt. of Cavalry: 12 miscellaneous per other mounted unit: 1é miscellaneous per battalion of infantry and 5 per other dismounted unit. For Headquarters units, 1 per officer. 1 per two servants, 1 per office and 3 miscellaneous. Marquees, small, single. i for recreation room per Regi¬ ment of catalry, brigade of artillery or battalion of infantry, 1 per sergeants mess per brigade of artillery, l per headquarters unite 3 per 2 other units if numberof members of Officers' mess does not exceed 12. Troops other than the above will continue training under the
orders of the C.R.A. , C.R.E., and O.C. Divisional Train
respectively.  Ground North of the Railway Line and West
of the Abbassiyah Canal will be reserved for Divisional
Exercises and troops engage therein are to have right of way
on all railway crossings and roads.
OPERATIONS TO
BE PRACTISED
2. The operations to be practised be ^are such as might be
required of a Division held in Reserve to an Army Corps
forming portion of an extended defensive line.
(a) Moving off in Column of Route from Bivouacs.
(b) Moving on broadest possible front through gaps in our 

defensive line.
(c) Movements in a formation which is capable of being
rapidly deployed to front of either flank.
(d) Preliminary deployment for attack and approach
March in artillery formations.
(e) Attack on flagged position.
(f) Night march to place of assembly. March outposts.
Night advance to position of deployment and attack at
dawn.
(g) Testing of signal communication.
3. The above will be practised as follows : -
Wednesday 2nd February  a, b, c, d,
Thursday      3rd  F       "          a, b, c, d, e.

NOTES ON
OPERATIONS.
4.   (a) Times on 4bn March Tables are calculated for a rate of
 2 ¼ miles per hour

(b) For size of gap see narratives issued daily.
(c) A triangular formation will be adopted - one Brigade
in front the other two echelonned to either flank at
deploying distance.  This formation enables two Brigades
to be rapidly deployed to either flank leaving one in
Reserve.
(d) Frontages and exact objectives will be given verbally on
the ground, on receipt of (imaginary) information as
to the position of the enemy.
(e) Particular attention must be paid to the allocation of
frontages to units : the maintenance of direction: fire
discipline and fire control.
(f) Reconnaissance of routes to positions of assembly
(Divisional Staff) - thence to position of deployment
(Brigade Staffs).
Each Brigade will be given a definite portion of the 
(g) enemy's line as an objective.
(g) The night operation will be practised as a day exercise
by Divisional, Brigade, and Battalion Staffs, and Signal
Units (Brigade and Battalion Commanders need not attend).

is chiefly interesting because it follows so very
closely on the lines of the account I myself sent
