been posted to me from Cairo on 13th Jan '16
& not having yet arrived. & being unable
to Secure the time & materials to make
it here, I beg to submit a specification
of the Cover for submission thru you
to Brigade HQtrs.
A Cover :- outside being Khaki Colored
American Cloth, lined with flannelette
with padding of thick cotton wool.
whole as per Sketch attached,
one side being affixed by means of
drawing pins (flat brass) to left side
of fore end at bolt & being drawn
right over bolt action tightly to
prevent intrusion of fine dust, into
action, & the other end being brought

General Idea: The enemy has crossed the
X SWEET WATER CANAL Suez Canal at EL-BALLAH
Station; his advanced guard is
moving on ISMAILIA by ABBASSIA
SWEET-WATER Canal
Special Idea:  The 16th BN has been ordered to
march out and meet enemy 3
miles N of ISMAILIA along the
ABBASSIA SWEET-WATER Canal.
Narrative:  One the 26th January 1916 at 2000
a message came from our mounted
troops that are on reconnaisance
that enemy have pushed forward on
mentioned area and that
enemy Advanced Guard
consisting of One regiment and Two
Bns of Infantry had been seen

ABBASSIA Canal N.E. of a point
marked K5.
Special Idea  The G.O.C. 4th Bde has ordered
the 16th BN to meet advanced guard
mentioned and hold them there

On receiving my orders I
ordered the BN to move off at 0930
on 27th→ and across the ABBASSIA
SWEET WATER Canal ^ through ISMAILIA; thence across the
Railway to the N. - from there moving
northwards within sight of the
ABBASIA SWEET WATER Canal,
detailing No 1 Coy as Advanced
Guard for the BN with instructions
to come in touch with the enemy
and to take up most suitable
position for the BN to hold.

about One mile south of EZ-ABU-BALLAH
covering movements of these
troops along SUEZ Railway.
Special Idea :  The 4th Bde has been ordered
to engage the enemy on that line
and push him off South West
by an Enveloping surrounding movement
Information At 2230 on the 27th.
inst. a message comes from
Divisional Mounted Troops that
enemy is holding positions with
about two Battalions (full strength) -
his weak position is his right
flank.
Narrative :  At 0600 the Brigadier the 4th
Bde has given orders to 16th BN
to push on from bivouac, which
is N.W. from ISMAILIA, and get
to EZ-ABU-BALLAH and attack
