Later Paris. Heavy cannonading on whole front, French
artillery continuing destruction of enemy defences

Rome Italians artillery continued to shell Colmino and took various
points, numerous trains in the stations of Trieste railway were
bombed and damaged. Ottawa News received Dr Stefansen
he was leader of Canadian polar expedition and long been regarded dead
Petrograd Germans have 15 divisions of cavalry 50 miles southward
Vilna. This places fate of Vilna in the balance. Russians are
completing the evacuation. Enemy attacks west and south west

night for possession of Derajno, Russians entered the
town hustled enemy out to neighbouring village
capturing 2000 prisoners. Germans attacked Gutova
and failed to occupy village, it resulted in Russians
capturing 562 prisoners. Round Strypa and north of
Butchany enemy fled in disorder before Russian onslaught.

17th Sept Asquith announced despatch from Dardanelles will be
published shortly. Admiralty announces enemy claims to have

sunk submarine 67 Lieut Commander Cochrane in Dardanelles
and to have taken three officers and 25 men prisoners.
As no news of this submarine been received since 4th instant
it must be presumed that report is correct
New York. First formal conference of the Anglo-French
commission and America financial - the loan possibly
will be divided in four series at 5 per cent interest payable in
dollars

whole front bomb trench mortar fighting in Argonne.
Petrograd South west of Dvinsk Russians repulsed repeated
German attacks. Enemy north east of Vilna succeeded in crossing
Vilna River. Russians in direction of Pinsk are retiring, enemy
continues countor attacks in Derajno district and in Galiela but only
achieved small local successes. Russians took 1000 prisoners near Derajno
