The Brigadier|
4th Inf Bde.

Sir,

Yesterday afternoon about
4 o'clock (1600) I sent out
two men Sgt Allen & Pte Miller
to try & find out if the Turks
were occupying Green Knoll.
They went round to the left
& reported there were earthworks
on the rear apex of Green
Hill with a communicating
trench leading back to the
turkish position. Also
a path leading from Green
hill to a sniper's post on
Sandy knoll on the
reverse side from our position.
The positions are not held
by day with the exception
of the sniper's post.
Ms Devonshire ∧(Hotchkiss Gun) reports
that the trenches on Green
Knoll were there five

15
days ago.

I noticed there were works
on the knoll when we
took over from the Londons
who reported that they
thought  the Turks held that
position by night only.

Sir,
No patrol of ours went
out from FRANKLIN'S POST
last night. AAA.
One was to go, but a report
was bought in that one man
thought Turks were in front,
and I decided to send patrol
out to night after completion
of sap from Warwick Castle to
FRANKLIN'S POST.
Probably 54th DIV mistook
our digging party for a patrol.
I was not satisfied that Turks
were in possession of Green
Knoll though trenches were there
which had been there when we
took over, so I did not
report
