Very Urgent
N.Z & A. Division H.Q.
I regret to report that the effective strength of the
Battalions under my command has, as the result of the
[*Continuous*] operations of the last 8 days, been reduced  by more than half.
The rough figures which I have been able to gather this morning
show the following to be the figures
13th Battalion    9    officers    500 others ✔︎
14th         "           15        "             620     "      ✔︎
15th         "            8        "              350     "      ✔︎
16th        "            9        "             300      "     ✔︎
                              ___________    _____
                               41   officers    1770 others
Some Battalions have no Battalion staff or M.G. Sections.
Several companies are entirely without officers or senior N.C.O's.
It is obvious that both for administrative reasons & as
a fighting machine, it is imperative that this Brigade should
be withdrawn for reorganization & the appointment of new
staff & leaders, - Also, many rifles & tools & other equipment
require replenishment or redistribution.
Col
