General 1. The following Units and formations of the Australian
Imperial Forces and the New Zealand Expeditionary Force will
hold themselves in readiness to leave Egypt at short notice.
Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.
The Australian Division - less certain Units already

Establishments 2.
All units will move at the strength laid down in War Establishments
1914, subject to amendments sanctioned since arrival in
Egypt, except that all G.S. Waggons carrying baggage or supplies
which are now four-horsed will remain so.
Reinforcements 3.
All unfit men or men for discharge will be transferred to the
base in Egypt (para. 4). Units will be made up to strength from
Reinforcements, and all remaining reinforcements fit to take the
Field will accompany Units to the overseas base as first Reinforcements.
Light Horse and Mounted Rifles Reinforcements will take fit
horses for all except the personnel detailed for Permanent Base
duties.
Bases 4.
Personnel on the scale laid down for Infantry Base Depot (W.E 1914
page 181) will be detailed from each of the Australian Division, and
The New Zealand and Australian Division for duty at the overseas
base to form a combined Infantry and General Base Depot for each
Division. This personnel will accompany the Head Quarters of their

own Division unless specially directed to proceed earlier.
The Australian Details will be reinforced by one Warrant Officer ar
and one one clerk, from Australian Units of the New Zealand
and Australian Division on their arrival. These Australian Units
will be dealt with in the Australian Section of the Over Seas
Base. The Australian Imperial Force and the New Zealand
Expeditionary Force will detail a Base Establishment as in
Appendix 1 to XXXXX deal with Units left in or arriving in
Egypt until transfer to England is ordered.
Ammunition 5.
Ammunition packed for journey by rail and sea will be taken
on the scale given in Appendix 11., Which will be issued later.
Gun ammunition will not be fused.
The amount shown against Brigade Ammunition column will
be sent, in the case of the New Zealand improvised Brigade
Ammunition Columns, with the personnel of those Units.
Supplies 6.
Seven days' supplies for men and grain for horses with fodder for
three days, will be taken by units in their Railway Train under
Divisional arrangements. This is in addition to one day's
cooked rations which will be carried on the men.
Baggage and Equipment 7.
Baggage and equipment will be taken on the scale laid down by
F.S. Manuals of units, and two blankets per man and one rug per
horse, additional to any horse blankets provided in equipment
tables. The articles usually left at the Base (F.S. Pocket Book-
pages 179 and 183) will accompany Units to the Overseas Base.
All other equipment and baggage surplus to the above scale
will be handed into the Base in Egypt or disposed of privately
Returns 8.
Tentative embarkation returns will be submitted for all Units
of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. The returns will be
compiled in Divisions and by the 2nd. Light Horse Brigade and
submitted to Army Corps Headquarters on the 5th. March.
Similar returns are required from the L. of C. Units.
The return will be submitted in the form shown in the appendix
111 to these orders, and will give the information required
therein.
The greatest care is to be taken in compiling these returns
as it is in these Returns that Army Headquarters Egypt will make
the necessary arrangements for entraining and embarking the troops.
Alterations in these states will be submitted twice a week on
Wednesday and Saturday until movement commences in order that
the states may be kept up to-date.
Pay 9.
Prior to embarkation, if pay is required, all ranks will be paid
in Egyptian money; after embarkation payment will be made in
gold under divisional arrangements.
Movement 10.
Railwat Timetables and orders as to entrainment and embarkation
will be issued from Army Headquarters, Egypt.
Tentage 11.
Tents will be packed and taken with Units in the Railway train,
and in the vessel conveying them.
In the case of L. of C. Units, all tentage brought from
Australia will accompany each Unit.
Extra Equipment
and Strores 12.
Units will return all stores and equipment surplus to their
requirements in the field, as under :-
Units of the Australian Division, to the D.A.D.O.S of their
Division.
Australian Units of the New Zealand and Australian Division
to the O.C. Base Depot (Colonel Sellheim, C.B.)

2nd. Light Horse Brigade to the O.C. Base Depot,
(Colonel Sellheim C.B.)
New Zealand Units of the New Zealand and Australian
Division to the D.A.D.O.S. of their Division.
The D.A.D.O.S. of each division and the O.C. Base
Details will send all their surplus stores, etc., to the
Base at Alexandria.
In the case of the Australian Units to the Ordnance
Store, already in their possession; in the case of New
Zealand Units to Shed No.17., Alexandria, which is being
obtained on their behalf.
The Officer detailed in each case to look after these
Stores in Alexandria, will return all such Stores not
Required to Australia or New Zealand at the first opportunity;
the remainder will be sent in due course to the Overseas Base.
Postal Address 13.
Postal matters arriving for the troops after their departure
will be delivered to the O.C. Australian and New Zealand
Base in Egypt, who will receive orders from Egypt Headquarters
as to their despatch as occasion offers.

STANDING ORDERS
Army Corps Headquarters.
Headquarters will move in three echelons, as follows:-
1st Echelon. In touch with army corps report centre.
2nd Echelon. Personnel & horses not with 1st echelon.
In rear of the troops of the division leading on the route
used by army corps headquarters and in front of its train.
Approximate road space-200 yards.
3rd Echelon. Motor transport when allotted. As may
be ordered: usually following the baggage section of the
leading formation on the route used by army corps headquarters.
2. Orders and Messages.
As a rule, copies of operation orders will be issued
as under to formations within the army corps.
Divisions 2 copies each.
Army Corps Troops 1 copy to each unit, or formation.
Detachments detailed in army
corps orders 1 copy each.
