Dear Colonel Wallace, I am now preparing the Training Programme for my Brigade in camp at Broadmeadows, and in order to allot days for Musketry and other Exercises, it is very desirable that I should know as soon as possible whether it is intendedethat the Brigade should have a farewell march through the City, prior to embarkation. The Command itself would appreciate it. If it is decided to have a march, I suggest that the date should be not before December i3th., but I hoz should like as long notice as possible. Dear sir, With the concurrence of the Commandant of Victoria, Colonel Wallace, I propose to arrange for a march of this Brigade with attached units, comprésing about 5000 troops in all, through the streets oftthe city, shortly before to our eabartarton for the front, co as to give the publie an opportunity of seeing the command, which is representative of all the States of the Commonwsaith. The troops would greatly appreciate it, if the Governor could see his way to review the march, and receive the salute at the stepe of Federal Parliament House. The date would be chosen to suit Hie Excellency's convenience, on Dec. 14th,15th, 16th,17th or 18th. passing Parliament House at 12 noon; the later dates preferred. 4. INSTRUCTIONS FOR FIELD FORTIFICATIONS. --------- ------------ ------------ PROPOSED SCHEME. Instructor to draw up programme for the actual construction of feur different types of fire trenches (lying,standing,enlarg- ed, and with coveretc.)in lengths not exceeding 40 refles, to occupy four working parties, one from each Battalion, of about 50 men each, for a half day of about 3 hours - two parties in the forenoon, two parties in the afternoon; - making out "Work- ing Party Tables" for each task. Select suitable ground within half a mile of the Camp, for the siting of trenches. Requisition for assistance required, and mark out, by pegs and spitting, the soveral tasks. Next day, at times appointed, parties of Officers (2 Battal¬ iens in the forenoon, 2 Battaliens in the late afternoon), will be taken to seo the lay-out, and instrusted in computing the tasks and times for each type of trench. Next day four working parties, each under an Officer, will be detailed, twe in the forenoon, two in the afternoon, to constr- uction the trenches under the Instructer. Next and following dass, the personnel will be sent, two Companies at a time, to inspect and occupy the trenches. Arrange working parties for filling in, on completion of the instruction. 25-11-14.
