Dear Mother & Father,
You see I am
over in old England again. I am
not so near to you this time, but I
am sure you will be of the same
idea as myself which I tell you
that I just missed being sent
to Newcastle because the train
was just full & I was put on the
one that brought me here, what
a bit of luck wasent it not
to be sent away up north

why this is quite far enough
away.

good afternoon together.

Monday Afternoon.
Sept 4th 1916

Dear Mother & Father
Having just partaken of
a great dinner of tough roast cow, a bad
potato & cold greens (served up in coffee shop
stile) I lay back on my pillow & think of
what the doctor told me this morning that
I shall have to be taped. I dont know
wether you know what that means but I
am sorry to say I do, to be taped means
to have a needle run in my side through
to my lung so as it can drain & all one
has is a grip of the bed post.
Well I have had to knock off for a couple of
hours as I have had another doctor to examin me

he is a specialist in lung complaints & his report is
very satisfactory, he says it would be best to leave
me alone for a while & it may pass away which I
only hope it will.
I shall be very glad when Sunday comes so as
you can come & see me again, are any of the
others coming, is Dolly coming, oh yesterday
was so dull for me nearly everbody had
visitors but a few of us & I kept looking at
everybody who came in to see if by chance
sh someone had come to see me, butt no such
luck & I was up for a couple of hours yesterday
afternoon but I can tell you was glad
to get back again.
When you come again dont forgot to bring
some more fruit & eggs if pos. & I dont no wether
you could make some little home cakes & bring
along just small ones.
Well now I think I wel will now close
hoping of one & all are well at home as
I am myself
I remain
Your loving son
Bob.

P.S. What about the Zep.
Did you go to see it ?
