Dear Mother & Father
I surpose you wonder wh wear I have got to by this
time well you must excuse mee
for not writing before well
by the time you get this
letter it will be Christmas
time wont it. I surpose I had
met with some mishap or the other
well no I hope not i but I tell
you what I have joined the
Australian army so 43 Park Rd
don't look so bad after alll. I
joined about a moth month ago
so you can see I shall soon be
a soldier. I am only in the infintary
but still thats not so bad
I tried for the light horse but the
riding test was a little too good
for mee. One thing its not bad money
here 5/- a day & clothes & food

thats nearly as good as good Cabinet Making
& not half as hard. You may thint it
funny mee turning up such a good
job but it was like this Philpott
had only about 3 days work left
for us & things are so bad out here
for there is a drought on we
haven't had any rain for months
so l I thorrt I would join the
army well I joined & here I am
Who ever thort a that when
I left. home that I was for
leaving for a soldier but still
there a such a lot of things
happening in this world its no
use beering surprised is it
I stand just as much chance as
any body elese. Well we have
not been forming into any
battalion yeat but still we will
be soon after Xmas, you can still send
my letters to Mrs Dowsing & she

so bad off for we are under
Canvas with just a blanket &
a water proof sheet for a bed but
still it all comes in a life time
I am sending you a little Xmas
present (£5) which I hope will come
in handy I know a few bob come
in handy Xmas time, I so knock
it up between yourselves I havent much
more to say close hopping one &
all are well at home
