wear steel Lelicts - We were in 1old Jo port line & lolt. French line ws our support line & there were 25 CB on 45 Ba fant each of wh had to be held i a bouib stop. For I first 2 days boart stops were Dio not aled as the ws to advance. This an the Alpine Corps, & were good shots.
48 Bn. 8. Aug. The MarkVt Tanks started with their Crews& parties. There were 8 of them. They were to go just behind Bn. They all ptt teir assembly point (before [ fog.) in wvalley behind Bn HEss. Hfws light (before when 48Bn moves at Zero) but fof came down just after moving This gave a lot of difficulty in getting to Accroche wood but all tanks Exc. one, & Bn got into posite t of accrase wood with 1Offraed (4 B.A. Jones) Onemank, & one tod. The ferms led one 5.9 Bty playing along the Hamelet Warpisle Rd. This caused these casualties & one tank ws left behind.
Bn as East of Accroche to for 25 mins. Then they mooed to Ratfully in plus in arty formation. The tanks came on behied. Hhe fog had cleared. Ie trouble ws one 77 gun foring possibly from near Sasan wood. This ws easily avoided it ws piring on (one point near Raths The Tanks tailed out a bit. Bn got to Reat wood. A Morley went out & goot informatin to 46 Bn were going well. Bn lift by an hour after reaching Ratwood in Exact accordance is proparing. Te R.H.A. followed llosely but Tanks were a good way behndt trying to cross the Tully near Ratwood.
Te parties w1 Tanks were marching along by them. They had tried getting cnsids but it we terribly hot & tee got out again. 48 Bn moved on in arty formate to near Susan 4008. The only shell fire ws shraprel fired from some point anknown & very high. At Susan Wood Bn waited 1o mins. A little indirect m.g. fire was met The tanks were a kile behind & cdbe seen. Bn moved to Richmond wood gully, & at O28 kiy thook out into Skermishing or r as they came under heavy mg.
& shellfire. Col. Perry wd. here & a few others hit near This ws from the hopital probl. 46 Bn as "then fighting & 4t also.. This fire was so sherp to the men were taken under command of their offes & pushed straght on as hard as tey Ed to Richmond Jully. Bn now had its et on 12d. The abovementioned fire wh got 1 Bn while it ws advancing knocked out I tanks. These tanks had caught up here (5 of them - one missig & not known of). Bn is us comin under fire of this gen wh offering
from between I road & hosital at 1 tanks - & this is why 1 off is took their Coys foud (at a stady double.) In Rato Bn 20w had its rton main road. There it found to the ad & 45 Bus had pri on to their objectioe. The tanks were coming up on the right in order to get into 1 jully by main road. 48Bn remaind on Richmond gully abt 14 her to five prien a spell before hop over. Meanwhile one of Scouts Refell & Lieut Morley went out with the 45 Bn Tell came back & reported to Bn
O.K. When 68 pot up to 48 morley reported to C.O. Col Perry remained on duty-hit thro teparm) that GBde were alrighe on et flank but had trouble on left. he tanks were not up here again they vent astray. 48Bn waited on the 45 objoc. under direct ng. fire from the old Bray line on their left. There seemed to be 4 mgs firig germs cd be seen moving abt there While &8Bn as lying up there one gan (77. from the left font) knocked out 3tanks N.E of Hope wood - (thy were

Sptens, went out with D Coy on 1 left - a very fine action - This tank had its compliment inside It got 100 yds past objot. & as then hit. Seseral of crew were burnt & 2 of our Lganners were killed getting out o1 tank (possibly Vikers also) by german Snipiy those who got out moved back to the OtS Bray luil of got there abt same time as I leading Coy. The other two lanks went to heir objective A Coy got to its objie with only to casualties - These tanks then reported back to
Rechmont Valley The Centre Coy had some difficulty at the bit of low scrub near R13central. Some m.p. held them up there; but by getting into the trench line & bomber & fighting with L. Go. Key Capto this with 80 prisoners. 2 Plus of D loy moved in pretty quickly & came under heavy 6n.J. fire from just E of I objoc (200 yds perhaps). They were on Ilef of C Coy. Keygot. into the trenches there & the 2 plus wh were folle them were caught & sufferets t pretty heavily by m. fire. wh

(Lt B.A. Jones) the man k, & one wd.
The Germs had one 5.9 Bty playing

Morley reported to C.O.

Mark V. tanks probly of 45
Bn. This took / fire off the
48 Bn.
From this positn all /
men cd see their final
objve. Abt 15 mins after reaching
45th objve (10.55; tho' only

the Germs. began to reorganise.

D Coy on / left - a very
fine action - This tank
had its complement inside.
It got 100 yds past / objve.
& ws then hit. Several o /
crew were burnt & 2 of our
L.gunners were killed getting
out o / tank (possibly Vickers
also) by German sniping.
Those who got out moved
back to the Old Bray line
& got there abt / same time
as / leading Coy.
The other two tanks
went to their objective -
A Coy got to its objve with
only 10 casualties - These
tanks then reported back to

Richmond Valley.
The Centre Coy had
