afternoon composing a letter
to Collins & tearing it up again -
to say tt if I cant be given
a means of locomotion I
cant go on w / work. Here
I ought to have bn out at /
battle all day today & here
I have been tied to this
country village 30 miles away.
I hear tt we
attacked the enemys new
switch line (joining their
new (watershed) line to their
3rd line, at Martinpuich
& got into it - but were
enfiladed out of it. We
got / whole of Delville wood.
One regt of cavalry did
get thro yesty, White tells
me, & rode down some

Germans sheltering in long grass
near Delvil High wood.
I believe we also attacked
Pozieres & did some good.
Germans counterattacked.
When we retook Trones
wood yesty we relieved
some Fusiliers (.Royal West
Kent Regt who had bn cut
off there for 48 hours.
