25 Bn Flers. The 25 Bn was to
have started at 4 pm on / night
before Nov 5 - but it actually did
not leave its camp – Carlton camp –
till 11 p.m. This was owing to its
waiting for its rations, wh it had not
recd. Kelsey, / doctor, tells me tt
/ fault ws not with Divn for
this - the rations were ready – it
ws at Bn Hqrs. [Young Bridges
who ws a major w them & who
was to take them over, he says,
ws in some way responsible - 
& the C.O. The fault ws with
Bn Hqrs.] By / end of night they
had completely lost their way – only
one officer ws apptly w them –
the others had gone on to find out where
they were. The doctor, sitting there,
ws told by some officer on / spot tt

they were sitting (/ whole Bn ws
on / ridge there) in full sight o /
Germans & if they stayed there
within a few minutes they wd
get every gun in Hundom turned
on them.
They arrd in positn only
10 mins before / hop over some
few o / men absolutely sitting
down & weeping. Nix was a 
magnificent officer. Walker
exhibited a showy sort of bravery -
would stand up on the parapet
with a rifle – but the real danger
then was not his but that ∧of the man
who followed him.
