Kerr reported to Gellibrand by
12 (noon) the two trenches had bn

Kerr left. He warned

by Gen. Wisdom to
report to 5 Bde to do
this job. x
Thorne's Coy had gone
up before.
He ws called in by
Gellibrand & Gillchrist.
They lined on the rt of

but rt ws abt 150
yds back.

the hand. Gilchrist
ws k - who led the show
who forwded them up &

This effort had completely
died out before Kerr
ws sent up w / rest

Cpl. O'Neil went over to
this attack. They lined
on rly where 5 Bde went
over. An offr in a dark
cardigan led them over.
Nottley ws there too.
Capt. Gillchrist took them
over. N. saw him through
the wire 30 - 40 yds
from O.G.1
Nottley w 3 or 4 men
got in on the left. G.
ws then on N's right abt
270 yds from the rd
O'N ws on right of him.
Only 4 of 26th were left
with O'N. They were in
one line, close together
at / start. The front

The m.gs where ON. ws
were very hot indeed.
When Nottley saw Gillchrist
there were abt 4 men
behind him - abt 10 men
were on Ns rt & 3 on his
left. He ws wearing a grey
cardigan jacket & a rifle
slung over his shoulder.
Pte. Jefferson ws w him
when he ws k.
ON. got abt 20 yds thro
the wire. There ws a Vickers gun
there & they w w one man of
20 Bn. They were shelled out
& got back to Sunken Rd.
When Nottley got in the
5th Bde ws holding abt 150 yds
from the road ^ not up to the C T. They had got in

There ws a bombg post at
/ end - no block - &
things were quiet. There
ws nothing to make a
block with. They
were not in O.G. 2

later they were bombed
out by Germs right back

Travers reported to Wisdom;
Orders were gn for 25 Bn to
be pulled out into Reserve
on Noreuil Longatte Rd.
The bn wd only muster abt

next mg. went to
Corps line behind Vaullx
& at 8p.m. rang up Wisdom
& told him they had 450
men ready for a scrap
agn. (They had 150 reifts
tt night & / men had
come back from various
quarters). 200 men were
sent up tt night & dug
a line connecting with
6 Bde. Next night 300 men
went up & dug a sap 1100 yds
long. 4'6" deep & connected
w British on right, w only
1 casualty. This ws manned
next day. Reld next night.
