Flockharts line ws getting
it heavily.
The Indian guns had
bn take away from their
positn on either side o /
head o / valley before
1 p.m. They had lost a

Between 1.30 & 2pm
a message ws read
from Flockhart tt if he
didnt get reifts he wd
have to return & abandon
his wounded.
Then it ws decided to
advance (Stewart was in
charge) Bn H.Q. Col & Sig. Offr
had gone round toward
Wire Gully & they were
lost sight of altogether.
Up to this time all
shelling had bn on Flockharts
line. Before the advance
began the shelling shifted

onto the line of D Coy etc.
Their movement had
brought this down.
Flockh. ws seen bringing
his wd back & he got
them back to the line
there. The line stayed
there till abt 4.30 pm
when it moved back to
the Saker's trench line
(betw 200 & 150 yds behind
where it had been) Flock.
had been fully 300 yds
beyond that.
It was in Sakers trench
tt they dug in for the night
Sig. Sergt Piggott - at abt

1.15 was rounding
men up ( in to old
soldier) at the request
of the major in charge
of the guns.
Major Stewart ws hit
about 3 while they were
lying out there by shrapnel
& got away abt 5.30.
Capt Mathison had a
dressing stn to left of head
of white gully.
Saker, when he got his
ankle dressed came up
to the right of D Coy
& was walking up & down
the line all the time.
