Turks were (by some) reported
to have got into Baku during
/ night. But if so they did
little harm, for / troops
all embarked (taking w them /
breech blocks o / guns) &
were away ^& off from xxx their Southern
port by morning.
The day before / battle
Maj: Sutton had arrived &
he had bn sent on a
mission to a place 15 miles
from Baku. He had not bn
put on / list o / force
at Baku - & so no warning
o / evacuatn ws sent to
him. He got out by a
number of adventures in /
end.

The same day a part o /
Russian force (the 1800) wh
had bn sent North, & then
had bn stopped by / Turks
& had bn ordered back recalled
to Baku, returned. They
were all on / way & their
advance guard reached
Baku on Sept 14. If only
/ whole 1800 had reached it
there wd have bn no retreat
for those Russians were
excellent soldiers. They had
one Dunsterforce liaison officer
w them & they were splendid
fighters. The main body
remained in a town to the
N. until the Armistice.
