Point prob reached by Tulloch on Ap 15.
On top of B'ship hill, S.W side of crest, we
found the Kit of an Ausatralian on the remains of
a Turkish dump. The bullets from his pouches
had bn opened by a Turk to extract the
powder.

newly arrvd Regts of 5 Divn were
arrived & abt to enter / positn.
They had bn near Koja Dere
19 & 2 (2 Divn had gone S after
May 9. and 5 gone into reserve for
Anzac, & rest).

over his left shoulder - seeing our
guns firing on / rear slope of
Chunuk Bair, altho the situatn
in the Pine ws critical he watched
cd scarcely keep his eyes on it
- He knew things must be happening
at "Jonk (Chunuk shd be Jonk) Bair"
which were more critical by far - &
If we succeeded there what use wd their
efforts be at / Pine.

Pine reserve. But on hearing of Suvla
/ order ws gn to / 9th tt it shd-

of this divn were sent first
12th 13th & 15th - 2 or 3 Bns
(15th came last- not at first- possibly
3rd or 4th day). They always came
in / same direction & into / same gully.
The Bns had lost most of their offrs
on 19 May - A Coy wd be commd by
a Sergt. On coming in they wd see
themselves exposed to fire from D;
they saw / road on / valley side
on / left hand full of dead brought
out of / Pine; & ahead they wd
see / fight - bombs, rifleshots
The troops were in bad conditn &
came to a bad situation. Few people
Essad heard of the Suvla landing
a bit late - for a reason, even [[?]]
9th Divn which ws coming from / S.
ws ordered to go into the Pine before

by these overhead timbers under
our fire.
The night passed - nothing done.
w day they saw tt / most impt
positn we had won ws at F -
because there were / periscopes.
This day reinfts came. Kemel
Yere, the H.Q. of Essad ws opposite
this point & they saw it all - Also
they didn't want to lose a foot of
ground - it ws their tactics not
to give ground. So they sent troops
to push us back.
The whole of this day the
attack continued; all troops who
came had / same order - After 19th May
Divn the 5th Divn ws in rest. The Bns

On the left between P Y & F there
were only no trenches - only pits & heaps
of earth. Mustafa Kemal at Y
cdnt tell Z/B how / trenches ran there
- there werent any .
The m.g. fire & flares of ours
were very close. Z/B wanted to
do something - but he cdnt find
his way in tt corner. They
tried to do something - Bombs
were being thrown from all sides - they
didnt manage to do anything
Till dawn nothing ws done.
The news came tt / rt flank
had advanced (but it ws a
version o / old false report -
the positn at dawn ws / same).
Esp. at M there were heavy losses
Over the C.T L N there ws an overhead
traverse K M. Men were sent overhe

him. The troops in / dark
entered / trench behind 1/57.
Several hours passed in
this way & the state of affairs
ws now pretty well stable.
Abt midnight the CO Regt gave
an order tt they shd make a
night attack. He had divided
the front into 3 parts under 3
Bn COs. Abt ZK, KY & YP.
During / night there ws a great
congestn & disorder in this
valley & these trenches.
Z/B asked the CO Regt
if he cd remain at KY & the new
Bn CO go to YP bec. Z/B didn't
know YP but he did know KY-
& the new man knew nothing.
The attack ws begun - at
what hour Z/B doesn't know.

come, w / C.O. 13th Regt.
Alirza Bey. (Probly he came w
one Bn. of his regt).
The two COs of Bns of 47 Regt
also got back to their HQrs at
Z & Y - they had no troops
but cd be consulted as advisers.
Abt midnight Alirza Bey
took ^up his HQ abt Z. Z/B went to
