Jackson who ws lying out

slope of Turkey Knoll. The
Ts didnt see him (there
were dead Ts there too —
our men kept still). Then
there started heavy rifle &
m.g. fire agst our 21
parapet but over heads
o / men lying out.
After an hour ^ waiting for this to cool Capt Everett
(& having got / informatn required
including / flash of several m.g.s.

the whistle ws blown to
retire - All came in exc.
one — who / role ws called
at once & one ws found
to be missing. A search ws
made for him in / trenches. Presently a man ws
found standing in / trench w
a kit in his hands — he
sd he had gone out & for /
gone out w / forward pty
& that / man beside him
had bn killed, shot thro /
head. He had his kit & his
pay book & rifle. The ^ dead man had
fired his rifle & ws / only one.
Each offr had to do a
stunt. Leane had Gaba Tepe
& so on.
