w 30 men.  They stayed till
night of 30th & acted as part
of 38 Bn doing good work.
Of 38 Bn 13 offrs 260 men eam
and were available on night of
Sept 30 incl. Bn Hqrs.
Casualties: 4 offrs 100 or.

There were no medical arrangements
at all, apparently, for the
Americans, nor Q.M.
arrangements.  They ^Those fighting w us were
entirely fed by us & depended
on us for everything.  Our
own Q.M. & transpt arrangmts
were admirable - they got
hot meals right up to the
front ^twice every night.  The waggons
came E of Ronssoy the first night

Lt J.H. Chapman wd, by
a shell.  The Q.M. of
38, Lt Telfer M.C. carried
on for 37 after delivering 38
Bns rations.  The food & water
& hot tea & cocoa were taken
from the cookers in w. edge of
Ronssoy Wood, in petrol tins.
(When Telfer got back from 38
he found 37 Bn transport
still looking for 37 Bn dump -.
Wilkinson had bn k. looking
for it, & transport offr wd
doing the same.  Telfer found
them their Bn dump & delivered
the rations).  Each day Telfer & the
transpt Sergt (Beard) had to come
(acting as transpt offr)
up & reconnoitre where Bn had

got to & then go back &
bring up the rations to the
dump wh moved every
night.  He wd come up after
lunch - then go back -
arrive at 8 pm w the first
load ^(hot evg meal) & return ^to cookers, & come
back w the hot morning meal
at 3 or 4 am.
Ammn ws taken up w the
rations (the lot suppt to last
for a day or more) genly
w the first lot of rations
& ws carried up from the
dump by ammn pties (of
Bn Pioneers) - & rations
by carrying pties from the
Companies.
