So Berhugott Y where they [ot into it; & C under Lt Cax & Willes got to (ferms on 1 side of wood & ito the Copse. Mahoney of 40Bn came up to day to one loy 6o try & relieve A Coy but cdut get to them tho a few of the 40Bn got right to the ferman y onedgeof copse. Tey
were trying to rust 1y on Ledge of Copse when Mahoney ws. K Com to 22 ti Cye B Coy to night came up & occupied the truck A had bu in & went jurther into a drain. 39 Bn attacked in pon] i1 mornng & 38 on their right went tho on it flank. The barrage ws v. good- Bly we 12 under it not hovin got notice to withorew. But 39 had a long way to fo.
39 Bn Clery. 33 Bn attacked on left thro Road wood; 39 attacked from Berlingott G N of Clery Copse to ws I line for commencience of attack but actual start was abt 500 yds short of it in order to allow our heavy berrage to come down on the brenches ahead incle Van Y. Col. Henderson. Lav refomed the Bn. just (eng before. He as aget attacks on this Scale without Arty support. He at once went down to Bde (be had bn thes Suzanne & Bray & Cerbark Maj. Payne 10 Br ws temposarily in charge. Payne
Prentice were wd by a stell on Aug 30 in Early afte. Col. Siy Walters (of Carrard's Coy) with a Cel of 38 Bn worked up Acaries Alley & Up Norkwards along Van Yx Wik bombs & shooting they cleared to y to Road wood - a lerp no of ferms were k in this
Y. They got 12 m.gs. Thy got touch with 33 Br there. This helped the rest of (line forward (it ws 1 highest partof line.) They worked back & down Acaries Alley Wits in. t gassard Y There they wet an offe of 33Bn & afewmen & he asked if they had any bouds. They sd they had one. He told tem to work ap N up Sassand & ty did so, reaching as far as 1 Sunken Rd in 20C & 26A. White doing this they put out by
rifle fire I crewd a ble of 775 which they worked up on from Iflank Across 1rd. Key go7 touch again with 33Bn West of the Bapaune Rd. in 20 c/D In I mean while the right had gone forward to Passand Y to Zombo, Hersfeld, & gothmosis 7x As they went over the ferms in Clery Copoe had ot up behind them & were suiping their S/Bs to mn.gs. & rifles. B loy of some 7 B hom hed seen this went over into

Later C Coy had to
get back out of / wood,
seeing they were cut off,
& had no commn w 21 Bn
wh ws to have been on

into Berlingott & stayed
there all day.

both Coys.  A Coy then
came out – only 8 men
left.  Capt Towl ws with
A Coy – later got D S.O. for

as 39 went over towds
this part of / trench & Capt

& Lt Overton were wd.
Sergt Walters ( of Garrard's Coy)
with a Cpl of 38 Bn worked
up Acaries Alley & 
got up Northwards along
Van trench. With bombs & 
shooting they cleared tt trench
to Road Wood – a large no
of Germs were K in this
