yds at this point. This recalled in a gap occarrie on the left of 9th Bn wh ws filled by a plu o9 Bn & afterwards by a Coy of 1Ba wh ws taken over here from behind 9Bn on rt. The 11Bn had a very rough handling foo mgs. on their unprotected left flank wh ws very open. They saffered heavity On ang 1 th ws a pap between 10 Bn & 12 Bn. A party of abt 300 Bavarions
came in thro' Anger wood this day & worked thro till they met 9Bn wh as digging in an Sapport. The Baverian tieed to close - at first O Ba thought to 1 pont line as complete & divtit know who these id be. This ws abt 10 am. after a heavy boubt of Sin & as shells at first tey were anagued to be a small pty not wopped up; then it ws found tt abt 100 had crossed road & got into some old 6 quite close to 98n The Jerms Harto Tuepay & fering a migs. A small
Hospitalo 5 ed 004 Tnt dgen pty of abt S0 germs W 3 mgs. & an officer rushed out from Brushwood whereots twere & tried to get into some t occupied by a small pt cerman of GBr. This pty we all killed - the officer along we left wouded. It then became a hand to hand melie. The 9th who were ander . Armstiong. OL have, cushe the E in wh 1 fermans & got into them. Sergt Walker & 2othes men closed with a part of abt 23 Jerms. They bayonete I. The other 18 surrendered (they were in
these treches). There were a good many ferms back in Anger Wood (thro wh they had cme up. D Penman YC. was there & L Cork & di they I their plus were with this pty wh made the rash & did very sood work 100 Phis were then detaild; & these att II am. cleared the wood ahead + filled 1gap & wood ws reported clared. These plus were under L Myers. 2 other plus (D Chakaway were sent over to I left to protect 1 left flank.

The Germs came up partly
thro these & partly in
Skirmishing order, & got
into hand to hand fighting
with some of our posts.

The 3rd c/attack ws

They were coming from /

to deploy the L.Gs. & T.Ms
(3rd L.T.M. Bty) got out their
& this attack ws stopped.

gave up.  The field of fire of our

When these had got to their

wood.  He went back to
