at a gag trot - & this ws too thick forthe work. They got abt 800 or 1000 yds past the Bhic line D NW. of Vanvellers & were scattered when ng fire got them. They brought in 47 prisoners (abt 11.30) He reatof cavalry went south of Harbourieres & later came back from directi of Tramerville with several batches
8 of prisoners - att 500 in all, who were handed to Cl. Freeman & marched back in fours. RAFof 31Bn deak wo numbers of 5DGe & wounder Germans. all day from 1 directer of Framvillers &Vanvellers there ws supping. And a gun from the woods behid Fanervelle, Abt 1 pm ws time when cavalry returned from there). Odd parties of fermans were
found abt Ble line all day long. only add parties were in the Blul And when nreached it. Noting doing to nihi. he mem were very foots ore - & thirsty. A large supply of extrawater cot got up. At att Spon. the Engrs goto a driver outs the train, pushed it back sods - then uncoupted te damaged part o I train & steamed
the Engine, abt & trucks, & the Cun to a sand abt 1oogds behievd blue line where Irails were broken. The Engrs & 34Bn repaired the line next day & took I train back. The german co see working pties from Framerville & ws stelling them on tyg. The prisoners from I train who lad rantowods
Vanvellers were most brought in by I cavabry R My Augg. 3132 w ordered to help 29 Bn advance line att 500 yds - obive Vanvellers. The order arrived to go to Bde at att 10 am. Cl. Freeman got back abt 10.45 - 10.50 with above order. Zero I am.
84 Te 31 Bn C. Coy - sterted at 11.15 am. They had only to go a little past the rly line. But as there ws fire from the copse along (rdin X1AxD he Coas went for this & took 2 mps &att 20 prisoners & Estab. line along the road as far as 142 DA.I.8. The tanks arrived at Man
Arty came down at Fam. But as tis we too short for cfey, attack chu be ft of to time. Coy bt There were 6 tanks for 29 Bn& St Bn & they were all knocked out by direct fire from an Auti tank gun in a shed outh NE end of Hanvellers. This gun aftiods
inflicted heavy casualties on 29 Bn when it attacked knvelles but as knocked out by sates mortars snt ford to support attact t Col. Freeman. The tanks must fo straght to their job - it is no food keeping them knocking about. Man of taub men were wd - no tank came back.

when Bn reached it.
Nothing doing tt night. The men
were very footsore - & thirsty. A
large supply of extra water ws
got up. At abt 3p.m. the Engrs
got xxx a driver onto the train, pushed
it back S wds - then uncoupled the
damaged part o the train & steamed

blue line where the rails were broken.
The Engrs & 31 Bn repaired the
line next day & took the train back.

abt 600 yds - objve Vauvillers. The
order arrived to go to Bde at abt 10 am.
Col. Freeman got back abt 10.45 - 10.50

The 31 Bn C. Coy - started at 11.15 am.
They had only to go a little past the rly
line. But as there ws fire from
the copse along the rd in X I A & D the
Coy went for this & took 2 mgs
& abt 20 prisoners & Estab. line
along the road as far as 1D91/2

as time ws too short for infy, attack
cdnt be got off to time. C. Coy cost
There were 6 tanks for 29 Bn & 31
Bn & they were all knocked out
by direct fire from an Anti tank gun
in a shed on the NE end of
Vauvillers. This gun aftwds

but ws knocked out by stokes mortars
sent ford to support attack by
Col. Freeman.
The tanks must go straight to
their job - it is no good keeping them
knocking about. Many of tank
men were wd - no tank came back.
