A 7.30 son Garton reconnoitred & put his pla in an dld germ. post in tonly dry poam on EEdge of village E25 D5.6. N7.45 as Moc. started to move to Catizfullas ferm. started shellen villag & one plu had to be taken round 12dge to meas it shey got unto N continuate of caterpellar + were diggeng in abt 8.5 when a german plane came over low & dropper white fares. The brought his arty down on the 2 Coys-42& cansed casualtial Bugy anane 62 At 4.15 when orders came to mos up Ville it ws light. By 4.S0 Macreik & Garton had reorganised B Coy under 1 bank on 1 edge oswamp. They formed Bloy in lives of Skermishers went straight at vikage forimg as they went. A serpt & 6 men were sent back to help 23 Bn along the N. road where ferme still were. At 5. 15 am. they sot outo line of trees in I mad mostly in shedholes - half of the men on I left of the ed up to the rever (about along gind line bel ₤25 & 26). The ferm opened heavy
man 59 while. Irest were firing - sectional advances, 1 gerns surrendered As Macreil passed farton he gave him orders to follow up as sad wave w his 2 plus. He got in touch to Reilly & arranged to his et flank strd be an road tho. 1 vellage (Reilly inclusive) left flank on roadt past 1 church. He cd by Church see some of 23B here by them. Jany th00 Ioil they killed att 30 & capt abt Macn. Saw 2 T.Ms (light) There 150 was also a TM at the shel in Ecles sector
pass to final objic. At 6.30 began advance in open order tomen behin Ibank Winstanley's party (he had bu knocked just before) & abs half the coy. The ferm ws sneping from Nw Corner of villap from a trench. At 1 same time they started, 2o or 30 of them, chased out oIswamp & trees by 23 Bn-I were seen dropping into this same trench & thouses abt it. When we had worked to within abt 50 yds of time in front o I village - strolling abt Doyds

sent Lt Bazley up to see Macn. & arrange

of C Coy) had bn ordered forwd to support B Coy. He
had pushed 2 L.gs. to the SE Edge of village & had rest of
his pln by the shed.  The telephone now came up.  C.O. told
Macn. to arrange w Bazley what to do.  At 7.30 Am Gaston
reconnoitred & put his pln in an old Germ. post in / only dry ground
on NE edge of village E25 D 5.6.  At 7.45 as Macn. started to move to Caterpillar
Germ. started shelling village & one pln had to be taken round / edge to miss it.
They got into N Continuatn of Caterpillar & were digging in abt 8.15 when a German
plane came over low & dropped white flares.  This brought his arty down on the
2 Coys - 42 & caused casualties.

on / edge o / swamp.  They formed
