(a) SX 2908 - Laxton:- On 12 June 46, correspondence was
addressed to you requesting this member to visit this office
in respect of a remittance in his favour. To date he has not
called and it is therefore requested that he be reminded to do

(b) SX 13471 - Lieut Mainwaring:- A remittance is also held
in favour of Lieut Mainwaring. Avice of this was given by
telephone on 6 June 46, but to date he has not contacted this
office. Could he be again requested to present his paybook
at this office please, for the purpose of crediting the
remittance thereto.

(c) Acquittance Rolls:- The initials of the paying officer
are required in respect of alterations to Acquittance Rolls
for payments made at the camp. It would therefore be
appreciated if Lieut Mentiplay was requested to call at this

Subject: Leave to Naval Victory Contingent.
Members of the Naval Victory Contingent have been granted
leave from 1200 June 10th, 1946 to 0100 June 29th, 1946, at which time
they will rejoin the camp in Kensington Gardens.
2. Leave tickets, railway warrants and food ration cards have
been issued.
3. It is requested that all mail be forwarded to N.L.O..
Australia House for retention until members of the Naval Contingent
call to collect it.
I4. t is requested that N.L.O. continues to pay the contingent
during this leave. In this connection it should be noted that a
party will spend part of their leave in Germany where service
accomodation and subsistence will be found.
5. A list of addresses on leave and numbers of food coupons
and railway warrants issued is appended.

MEMORANDUM:
It is my direction that you disembark with, and
take charge of the naval personnel in the Australian Contingent
for the London Victory March, during the time the detachment is
on shore in the United Kingdom.
2. The detachment will be under the command of the
Officer Commanding the Australian Contingent, Major General
Kenneth Eather, C.B.E., D.S.O., E.D., whilst so detached, and
in all matters, with the exception of punishments, will come
under his orders, with regards to offences and punishments the
provisions of the Naval Discipline Act will apply, delegation
of authority to punish in accordance with King's Regulations
and Admiralty Instructions Article 536 is attached. Any
punishment inflicted under this authority are to be entered
in a Minor Punishment Book (A.S.242) which is to be returned
to my office on re-embarking.
3. Naval personnel whilst detached may be granted leave
in accordance with the orders of the Officer Commanding.
4. The detachment will re-embark at Portsmouth not
later thatn 1200A (noon) Monday 1st July. Further instructions
in this regard will be iszued.

Subject:- Posta1 Instructions.

To- All Dominion Contingents.
1. The following additional instructions regarding the pPostal facilities and
Post Orderlies are forwarded for information and action.
2 Post Orderlies should be provided with:-
AB 426 - one book.
AF A20420 - 50 Cards.
AF W3077 - 500 Forms (Empire Contingents only.)
3. There will be no special Postal concessions for British or Allied Forces,
but Dominion and Colonial Contingents will be granted concessional Air Mail
facilities for correspondence to their homelands as follows:-
Air Letters (AF W3077)
or
Ordinary Letters up to 1 oz. - Free of Postage.
Letters up to 1½oz - 6d.
Each additional ½oz - 6d.
All correspondence in these categories will be sent by air so far an air
services are available if posted in accordance with the following conditions.
(a) Correspondence sent under those concessional arrangements will be handed
in at the Lines Orderly Room. On no account will they be posted in an
ordinary post office box; if they are, unpaid letters will be sent by
surface route; letters prepaid at the concessional rite n applicable to
correspondence exceeding 1oz in weight will be sent by air, but will be
liable to surcharge on delivery.
(b) Concessional correspondence must be stamped with the lines Orderly Room
stamp at the bottom left hand corner of the address side.
(c) Orderly Rooms will dispose of accumulated concessional correspondence
daily by placing it in an unstamped envelope or a bag addressed to :-

4. Collection of Mail.
A Post orderly will be appointed for each Lines. He will be furnished with a
written authority to collect mail. This authority should be signed by an Officer
of the Permanent Staff of the Camp nominated as responsible for the postal arrangements
and should be on the following forms:-

is hereby authorised to collect all letters, telegrams,
parcels, packets und newspapers addressed to the unit

Note:- This certificate is not transferrable and should not
be detached from AB 426.
This authority will be of a size that will allow of its being posted inside
the back cover of AB 426.
The Post Orderly all collect all mails from the Camp Post Office
twice daily at 0930hrs and 1630hrs and delivery should be made as soon as
possible. Telegrams will be available for collection from the Camp Post
Office between 9a.m. and 6 p.m. on week-days. At other times including
Sundays telegrams will be delivered by the Post office to the Orderly Room
at HQ Camp.
5. Registered Correspondence.
(a) The Post Orderly will be required to sign on Form F.F.49 for all
Registered Letters collected from the Post Office. A duplicate copy of the
form will be given to the Post Orderly with the Registered Letters.
(b) Responsibility for Registered Articles received from the Post
Office rests with the Post Orderly who signs for them until he, in turn,
obtains a valid receipt for them. When not in the actual custody of the
Post Orderly, Registered items should be kept in a locked receptacle.
(c) The Post Orderly will enter in AB 425 particulars of all Registered
letters and parcels received by him for delivery, care being taken to ensure
that the Number entered on each occasion corresponds with that received from
the post office. The Past Orderly will obtain a signature far each item before
parting with it. Where possible such registered articles should be delivered
direct to the addressee and he letters signature obtained.
(d) A recipient of a registered article will satisfy himself that it
is intact when signing for it, any loss which is not noticed then cannot be
subsequently recognised as a ground for compensation. It is preferable for
registered letters to be opened in the presence of the Post Orderly.
(e) Registered correspondence which cannot be delivered will be endorsed
as directed below and handed in without delay to the Post Office and a signature
obtained for each item in the AB426.
(f) Registered correspondence will be collected once daily at 113Ohrs
from Camp Post Office. [[?]]

6. Undeliverable Correspondence.
(a) Letters and parcels which cannot be delivered owing to the absence of
the addressee:-
(i) when the new address is known, be clearly redirected to
the now address ;
(ii) when the now address is not known, be endorsed
"Left . . . . . . (Camp) address not known";
(iii) if the addressee is not known to belong to the lines or
Camp to which the correspondence is addressed, the endorsed
"Unknown in . . . . . . (Camp)".
(b) All redirections will be initialled and dated and all earlier
endorsements will be struck out, but will not be completely obliterated.
(c) The Post Office has instructions not to accept returned correspondence
which is not properly endorsed. Full use should be made wherever
possible, of redirection cards AFs A2042, A,B and C.
7. Disposal of mails.
Tho Post Orderly will not accept mail from personnel for posting. Apart
from Dominion and Colonial contingents to whom special instructions will
be issued, correspondence and parcels may be posted into any Post Office,
8. Mail Bags.
Tho Post Orderly is responsible for ensuring that all mail bags are returned
to the Post Office with the least possible delay and that they are on no
account used for purposesother than that of carrying mail.

ARRANGEMENTS FOR SHUTTLE SERVCE TO
AUST VICTORY CONTINGENT
Further to AAS Office Instruction 22/46, dated 31 May 46:-
1. Owing to the very limited use which is being made of this
routine shuttle service, it will be withdrawn as from 18 Jun 46.
2. Routine correspondence, etc, for Kensington Cardens should
be in the Registry by 1600 hrs each day. WO i/c Registry
will arrange with the Camp Comdt. for transport to Kensington
Gardens.
3. Priority correspondence may be despatched by special messenger.
All details in connection with arranging this special messenger
will be the responsibility of the branch originating the correspondence.
