be continued tomorrow. Socrates & Co
defeated AMF 10 - 7. This does not
put AMF out of the contest as
every team plays every other team, &that those with most points put at the
end contest the final.
1745 Directly [[?]] conducted her
session for the last time, since before
the return trip. The thanks of
the contingent are due to chief
Officer McClements for the trouble
she has taken to produce this
entertaining & amusing [[?]].
2400 Clocks put forward 1 hour.

Saturday 25 May.
AT SEA.
Fine clear day, but overcast
at intervals. Wind still strong.
545 Officer's Conference. Rifle drill
will be carried out on quarterdeck
by RSM, half an hour for each
platoon. All permanent duties to
be included. Bedding to be
inspected by platoons & equivalent
sub units during the morning.
Inspection to include both
completeness & markings. The
ship's companies bedding is
also being inspected, and
any anomalies will also be
rectified when the inspectionwas is finished.
0900. Parade & inspection.
0915. Rifle drill commenced
under the RSM on quarterdeck.
At the end of each period the
timing proved to be considerably
improved - much slower than
hithertoo & uniform. The RSM
was also able to introduce a
little "swank" snap into the drill.
Concurrently with rifle
exercises bedding was inspected.
There proved to be considerable
deficiencies in all ship articles,
particularly matress covers. When This was reconsidered later
on when the Ship's Authorities
brought to light the surplus
articles from their inspection.
There are still deficiencies, but
225
they are quite small
The RAAF Component did
foot drill in the morning
under their disciplinary WO.

The CANARY islands were
passed during the late morning
& afternoon. The clouds were
too thick to see the full bulk
of the mountains on TENERIFFE.
1700 NAAFI's in the continuation
of their contest in the Quiz quarter
finals against SNAFU. defeated
them 3 - 1. They had 1 question
each - an arrangement agreed
on by both teams. NAAFI's then
defeated AMF 7 - 4 in their first
semi-final. This leaves the situation
as follows:- AMF have contested
twice to score 13 points. Socrates
& Co have contested once to score
[[?]] points. NAAFI's have contested
once too score 7 points. After Socrates
& Co play NAAFI's the two teams
having the highest points will
remain in the contest & play
off the final.
The Womens Services had
their first win at Deck Cricket
today.

points in the semi finals, will contest
the final at a date to be notified.
The only Contingent members are

the NAAFI team.

Sunday 26 May
AT SEA.
Fine, clear day.
0930. Division and church parade in
torpedo space. Owing to being slightly
late in coming form the torpedo
space to this "Division" position on
the quarterdeck, the AMF Contingent
were forced to move in single
file & generally presented a most
unsoldierly appearance. This was
commented on by both Gen EATHER
Brig MOTEN.
The service was conducted
by Rev Chap JAMES, Rev JO WERE
gave the address, and Captain
SHOWERS read the lesson.
After the service all ranks
stood down for the day.
Information received from
LONDON that blankets & messing
gear for all ranks is being supplied
by KENSINGTON GARDENS Camp. A
[[?]] is available in the camp. In
view of the comparatively short
stay they suggest we may not
decide to land large quantities of
clothing. Officers & women members
require to bring their own sheets
& pillow slips.
