The following is a copy of a signal received:
“AMF Component. Programme approved provides for HMAS
‘SHROPSHIRE’ calling at FREMANTLE, ADELAIDE, MELBOURNE and
SYDNEY when returning from the UNITED KINGDOM. Members of the
AMF Component, London Victory Contingent, will disembark in
their home sta tes excepting Tasmanians and Queenslanders who
will disembark MELBOURNE and SYDNEY respectively for homeward
routing, and those members required in cadre for disbanding
unit who will disembark MELBOURNE where unit will be finalized.”

111. PICQUET
AMF A picquet of 1 Sjt and 6 O/Rs will be detaiLed for daily
duties by RSM whilst in FREMANTLE to report to DAPM, Sterling
St, PERTH.
RAAF A picquet of 1 Sjt and 3 O/Rs will be detailed daily by
WO MAHER whilst in FREMANTLE to report with Army picquet to
DAPM, PERTH.
112. LEAVE
Leave will be granted till 2359 hrs daily except
(a) where overnight leave has been granted
(b) persons detailed for duty
(c) persons required for special medical examination in
PERTH. These persons will be notified.
All leave expires at 2359 hrs on Sun 11 Aug 46.
113. DISEMBARKATION OF WEST AUSTRALIAN PERSONNEL
Personnel disembarking in FREMANTLE will parade at 0830 hrs
8 Aug 46 in the torpedo space with all bedding etc issued to them
from Ship's store, AMF party under Sjt HAYNES, RAAF party under
Sjt RISELEY. These parties will report with bedding to the
main ship's store. All heavy baggage will be stacked in torpedo
space by 0900 hrs.
AMF - Lt STARMER, MC, will act as Draft Conducting Officer for
AMF, and will proceed with the disembarkation party to LTD
GRAYLANDS and LTD Women's Services, and be responsible for the
production of all necessary Army forms and documents.
RAAF - F/Lt P.J. COFFEY will undertake similar duties for RAAF
personnel disembarking.
114. BAGGACE PARTY
Sjt WESTON and six men from No 3 Pl will act as baggage
party for loading vehicles on wharf at FREMANTLE.

Facilities available:-
OFFICERS: Staff Corps Mess, Swan Barracks, is open daily
until 2000 hrs. No accommodation.
WOs & SJTs: Garrison Sjts' Mess, Swan Barracks, is open daily
until 1800 hrs. No accommodation.
OTHER RANKS GENERALLY:
(a) Anzac Club, St George's Tce - Rest and Writing Rooms.
No meals available but bar is open until 2100 hrs.
(b) RSL House, corner of Murray & Pier Streets - Bed and
meals provided for small charge - 60 beds available.
(c) Toc H, Locksley Hall, Stirling St - Bed and meals
provided for small charge - 40 beds available.
(d) YMCA, Murray St - Rest and Writing Rooms.
(e) Air Force Rendez-vous - Rest and Writing Rooms.
116. TRAVEL
All Contingent personnel may travel free on suburban
trains and Perth trams.

119. LEAVE
1. Leave will be granted daily until ten minutes after the arrival
of the last train at Outer Harbour from Adelaide except
(a) Leave on Tue 20 Aug 46 expires 1400 hrs
(b) Where overnight leave has been granted
(c) Persons detailed for duty
So overnight leave will be granted on Sunday night. All
members of the Contingent will return to the Ship.
Further leave will be granted on Monday 19 Aug after the
march through Adelaide.
120. DISEMBARKATION OF SOUTH AUSTRALIAN PERSONNEL
No member of the Victory March Contingent will be disembarked
until after the march through Adelaide on Monday 19 Aug 46.
Bedding: All ranks of AMF and RAAF disembarking will parade in
torpedo space at 0630 hrs Mon 19 Aug 46 with bedding to be handed
in to Ship's store. WO II JONES will take charge of the parade.
Baggage: (a) AMF and RAAF personnel will ensure that all baggage
is stacked in torpedo space by 1000 hrs 16 Aug 46. The following
personnel will act as baggage party on 16 Aug 46

(b) Persons disembarking may take their baggage home at any time

room at the Adelaide Railway Station.
(c) All baggage not removed es above will be taken to Adelaide to
LTD and PD after the march.(d) AMF: Lt: STARMER, MC, will act as Draft Contacting Officer,
and will proceed with draft to LTD, ADELAIDE, and will be responsibl
for all necessary Army forms and documents.
RAAF: F/Sjt WILLIAMS will undertake similar duties for RAAF
personnel disembarking.

121. AMENITIES
General: Accommodation of from 80 to 100 beds is available
at the Red Shield Hut, Adelaide.
Seats have been arranged for cinemas on Friday, Saturday and
Monday nights. Further details will be promulgated.
Fri 16 Aug 46: Afternoon party for WO's and Sjts at the Garrison
Sjts' Mess, Keswick Barracks. Personnel who will be going to this
party will be ready to go ashore when the Ship comes alongside,
to ensure that there is no delay at time of moving off. WO I
WATSON will be in charge of this party.
Sat 17 Aug 46: Saturday afternoon is free for the following
functions:
Races at Victoria Park and Australian Rules Football
at Adelaide Oval.
Sun 18 Aug 46: There will be a party for ratings and troops given
by the WANS. Members of AMF and RAAF desirous of attending will
hand their names in at Orderly Room, by 1600 hrs 15 Aug 46.
Buses are available to take 50/60 personnel to MT LOFTY
(lunches required). AMF personnel will hand their names to Pl
Sjts, RAAF personnel to WO Maher, by 1600 hrs 15 Aug 46.
Mon 19 Aug 46: Refreshments and buffet will be served at the RSA
club for all members of the Contingent after the march.
122. TRAIN TRAVEL
The time of departure of the last train from ADELAIDE to
OUTER HARBOUR each evening will be promulgated later.

123. MARCH THROUGH ADELAIDE MONDAY 19 AUG 46
Routine
0630 hrs Personnel disembarking hand in bedding.
0700 hrs Breakfast.
o730 hrs Draw Rifles.
0800 hrs Parade on wharf. Drill until 0840 hrs.
0845 hrs March to train.
0850 hrs Form up in sixes facing the train, in following
order: Nearest to train, Colour Party, then
RAN, AMF and RAAF.
0855 hrs Entrain.
0901 hrs Train departs.
0930 hrs Detrain Adelaide Railway Station; form up in
sizes on platform and march from the station
to the City Baths in King William Street. Form
up to receive GOC.
1004 hrs GOC takes over Parade.
1005 hrs March off.
Route: North Terrace, Gawler Place, Rundle St, King William
St to Angus St.
His Excellency, the Governor of South Australia, will take
the Salute at the Town Hall, Adelaide, at 1030 hrs.
124. PROCEDURE AT ANGUS ST DISPERSAL POINT
(a) AMF and RAAF personnel for discharge etc will fall out under
Lt STARMER and F/Sjt WILLIAMS respectively, and rifles, bayonets
and web frogs of AMF returned to QM.
(b) All AMF personnel return rifles etc.
(c) Contingent dismissed and will be entertained with refreshments
and buffet luncheon by RSA Club.
(d) Personnel for discharge etc will parade under Lt STARMER in
ANGUS ST at 1200 hrs for movement to LTD and PD. Adjutant will
arrange transport.
(c) Transport for return of rifles to ship will move at 1200 hrs
under QM. This vehicle will also be used to convey any baggage
left on the ship vide R030, para 120 (c), to LTD and PD.

125. COMPANY COMMANDER
From the time of the Contingent's arrival in MELBOURNE on 22
Aug 46, Lt A.C. STARMER, MC, is granted the powers of a Company
Commander in accordance with AMR & O 339. These powers will
terminate on the Contingent's marching into LTD SYDNEY on 28 Aug 46.
126. AMENITIES
The party by the WANS has been cancelled, but there will be
a dance for all ratings and troops at "Open House" Grenfell St,
on Friday 16 Aug 46 at 2000 hrs.

130. DISEMBARKATION
AMF and RAAF personnel being disembarked in MELBOURNE will
stack all heavy baggage in torpedo space by 0900 hrs 22 Aug 46.
All Contingent personnel will ensure that Customs' Declaration
Forms are obtained and filled in before reaching harbour.
131. WORKING PARTY
All personnel proceeding to SYDNEY and BRISBANE will, after
entering harbour, act as working party for removal of Contingent
stores xxx from the Ship to transport on the wharf. This working
party will report to Capt JOHNSON, QM, in the torpedo space at
1030 hrs.
132. LEAVE
Leave will be granted daily until 2359 hrs. All leave
expires at 2359 hrs Sun 25,Aug 46. No leave will be granted
until Ship's stores are stowed on transport.
133. SPORTS GEAR AND LIBRARY BOOKS
All sports gear and Contingent library books issued by
Padre JAMES will be returned by 1600 hrs 21 Aug 46.
134. HOSPITALIZATION
The following personnel will be marched out to HEIDELBERG
Military Hospital upon arrival in PORT MELBOURNE:

VICTORY MARCH CONTINGENT
Personnel in the Royal Australian Air Force
Contingent number sixty. Of these seven women represent
the Auxiliary Service.
The whole is under the command of Wing
Commander R. KINGSFORD-SMITH, D.S.O., D.F.C.
Of the men, thirty seven are ground staff and
sixteen Air Crew. The former are drawn from all
musterings; from Flight Riggers to Radar Operators.
These men come from all over Australia, and the majority
saw service under the particularly trying conditions of
the Pacific Islands Campaign, where the servicing and
maintenance of aircraft was always an arduous duty.
They have all had long service and outstanding records
as their decorations indicate. These include a G.M.,
several B.E.M's, and numerous Mentions in Dispatches.
The Air Crew include Pilots, Wireless
Operators, Navigators and Air Gunners. Decorations
include 2 D.S.O's, an O.B.E., M.C., 7 D.F.C's, 2 Bars
to D.F.C's, ^[[?]] 2 C.G.M's ^ [[?DFM?]] a D.F.M. and Bar and a [[?]] B.E.M.
Representatives of every theatre of war
in which British Forces were engaged may be found
amongst the Officers and men of the R.A.A.F. component.
Service was seen with units of either the R.A.F. or
R.A.A.F.
To complete the representation of the R.A.A.F.
we have six (6) W.A.A.A.F., under the command of
Squadron Officer CARTER, Matron WHEATLEY, A.R.R.C.,
representing the Air Force Nursing Service. These
girls are from all states of the Aestralian Commonwealth,
and each has had at least four (4) years war
service.

group the personnel to campaign areas, home states, and
points of general interest.

of an individual on the nominal roll (attached) and should
the Press desire any particular story of an individual it
is requested that the Public Relations Officer (Flight

awarded O.B.E. for liaison work with the Army in
ITALY.
