COrpIDErTIM AUSTAALLAN CGTRADRUARTERS. r 12th August, 1918. on 14151.1 G.0.C. 1391 1560 Ath AUSTRALIAN DIVISION In appointing Brig-General WISDOM, C.B., C.M.G., D.S.O. to command the Liaison Force now being organised - a force equivalent to a Division - I maintain I have been superseded. Two reasons may be assigned for the above - General WISDOM is considered a better leader in the Ta Pield than I. The strain of the past å years may have indueed the 6 Corps commander to decide that I am war worn. As regards (a) the fine record of the 4th Brigade during the past 2 years and its present state of efficiency appears to have been overlooked by higher authorities. As regards (b) I am no more war worn than any other senior Commander. The application for a month's special leave was only in accordance with the policy pursued whereby selected senior Officers may recuperate while normal conditions prevail on the western Front. I shall be glad if an early opportunity is afforded me to see the Corpe commander so that I may know what principle is being adopted with respect to such appointments. If other reasons are forthcoming to warrant this supercession I desire to know them and if possible make amends. 'Should my shortcomings be insurmountable I respectfully maintain that my experience with the A.I.F. will be of assistance to the Minister for Defence in AUSTRALIA. Gdend Cttn Brig-General.
