CO's I got the benefit of it. We had
Church Parade this morning, and afterwards
I went to Communion in the YMCA
tent. At about 11.30 General Chauvel
arrived & inspected the Brigade prior
to departure, and afterwards we
marched past. Allan and Les
came across about noon, so I invited
them to stay for dinner with us. I am
glad we were able to have Xmas
dinner together - a fairly good
dinner, with the inevitable plum
pudding to follow. Unfortunately
we didn't get the turkeys I told you
about as the Ionian was sent out
suddenly about three days ago.
After dinner we all went over
to the hospital to see Roy, and
had afternoon tea with him.
He is much better, and expects
to go to Egypt tomorrow. The
Sister in charge of the ward wanted
to keep me in - said I
had no right to be out of
bed with a face and eyes
like mine (meaning the yellow)
Roy jumped at it and they
wanted to get the Doctor along
then and there to order me
straight in, but I wasn't
having any. I shied clear
of tea tonight (barring a
small serve of pudding -
I couldn't refuse that).
I'm packing up now ready
for the morning. Everything
points to Egypt, and Roy
heard that we are going
to Mena again
Well sweetheart mine, this
brings me to the close of
another book. I xxxx said
when I was finishing my
last book that I hoped
by this time to be on my
way home and the
war over! What a little
while ago that seems, and
yet it is over three months.
I am afraid by the look of things
at present that there will have
to be yet another book or two.
Lots of love darling
Yours
Ben
