English M.O.s and

orderlies.

Shocking conditions. Slush

& snow. I'm Night Supt.

4 P.O.W. Wards. No

sisters. R A M.C Orderly

Very poor type. I heard one

man moaning. I said

to the orderly who was

just about asleep. "What

is up with that Man." He

said "Oh he is always

calling out." I went &

had a look at the patient

a German prisoner. He

was on a wooden splint

badly twisted. I took it

down. It had not been

dressed for ages. The whole

Calf muscle sloughed out
when I removed the dressing

- and they talk about German

atrocities

Another P.O.W. had an Ampd

leg. healed. He was getting

about the ward helping.

A young M.O. wanted to

do an Op. They re ampd

and the boy died from

Haem. We are all feeling

shocked and hope our

men take over before long.

I asked to take leave &

see a bit of England.

before returning to Aust.

Was told the seniors were

wanted back to organize

Repatriation Hospitals in

Australia. I don't

care anyhow. This is

a mixed ship. Troops

and Civilians. A party

of Jews returning to

Palestine for the first time

tea planters for Ceylon

who hate the Jews & are

horribly rude to them.

The troops are glad to be going

home but are wondering

how they will fit in again.

There is a good Padre on

board. Best I have met.

Spends all his time with

the men instead of hanging

round the sisters. Not

much sickness on board

I'm in charge. Roster for

2 hrs a day.  S.M.O not

bad. engaged to a girl

in Geelong & feels he doesn't

want to marry her. If

only Harry could be here!

May Bartley on board &

generally a happy crowd

Topsy Tyson has died of

Spanish flue. The

English sent her off

to an Infectious Hosp &

she was away from us.

If they had only returned

her to her unit we would

have specialled her.
