JULY, 1918.
Sunday 14
Early morning stand to arms
Our line heavily attacked
by German Storm troops with
overwhelming numbers; were
forced to withdraw; the 1st Regt
in a brilliant Counter attack
regained all previously held
ground & inflicted very heavy
losses on the enemy
Captured about 500 germans
during the attack, all watering
places heavily shelled stood
to all day.
Took rations out to gun in
evening, very busy all
day filling belts for M.G.
George Sohadil, Harry Heath, Jack Ellerton
Ivan Scott, Ray Chappel killed in
action int st

Monday 15
Wadi still under shell fire
had to go down in Section
very hot & dusty.
Shelled 1st Regt with big gun
from RedHill ([[??stunt?]]).
Busy day returning all
U.S. gear & beer bottles

Tuesday 16
Preparing to move; quiet
in morning, but our
camp was heavily shelled
during afternoon with short
intervals; we were busy
enough to get our horses
into the water & in good
cover with the loss of
only one horse; and
had to do all the packing
up among the
lapses of shelling.
Shelling ceased about 6.30 &
then proceeded out to relieve
brigade from trenches and hand
over to 3rd Bgde: left there at
12.30 -

Wednesday 17
Passed Jericho about 1.30
& proceeded onto Talet el [[Dumin?]]
and onto [[El Muntur?]]
arrived about 6.30 Am, &
tired out. usual routine
Went over to 1st to see Max OConnor
Whitfeld & [[?]] evacuated
sick

Thursday 18
In camp quiet day very
hot indeed.
George Little - Len Browne
went to hospital
Went over to 1st Regt at
night & saw Reg Green.

Friday 19
Brigade paraded before
Gen Chouval in connection?
with our last scrap
just before we were
relieved. very hot day
& waited in the sun for
a couple of hours.
Left Talet el [[Dumin?]] about
7.30 & proceeded on through
Jerusalem long & slow
ride as we had the
limbers with us.
JULY, 1918.
Saturday 20
0130 AM.
Had just left the Desert Corps
Reinforcement Camp between
Jerusalem & Bethlehem & was
leading Jumbo when he
refused to budge & I was
just getting on him when
he threw me & knocked
me out; after waiting about
1½ hours was picked up
in the 1st F.A. cart &
taken to camp near
Hebron, & stayed the
day: left temple very
sore; head aching.
JULY, 1918.
Sunday 21
Stayed the day in the
1st F.A. very crook head
all day. also pretty high
temperature (102°)
Good mail in, Jess engaged.

Monday 22
Stayed at F.A. till late
in afternoon, then taken
into Jerusalem in Motor
Ambulance to 34th Cas
Clearing Station; stayed
the night, high temperature
Took test of blood.

Tuesday 23
Not feeling too bright, was
kept behind, all the rest
of the ward except two
were sent on. under
observation for Malaria
had to take a big arse
of quinine.
also had injection of quinine
in the thigh & injection
of Anti Tetanus at night

Took another blood slide
previous one proved
negative; great war
news from France..

Quiet day. nothing
of any importance doing

Packed up kit & got motor
to Base in Jerusalem then
caught Ambulance Motor
to Ludd, arriving about
12.30. at the 26th Cas
Clearing: waited there
the day.
Eye became septics pretty
troublesome foments 3 times
daily

Saturday 27
Orders to move again
left 26th at 1.30 & waited
in train till 4.30 when
we proceeded to Gaza
arriving at the 44th Cas
Clearing Stn about 5.30
and got eye dressed. very
sore.
Nurses on staff.
Leg becoming troublesome
where I got my quinine
injection.
JULY, 1918.
Sunday 28.
Stayed the day in
44th and saw some of
the old mob.
JULY, 1918.
Monday 29
Stayed all day at Gaza
in 46th & caught Hospital
train at 8.P.M. &
proceeded to Kantara
6/hours trip.
JULY, 1918.
Tuesday 30
Arrived at Kantara
about 7.30 am & went
to 24th [[?]] Hospital
Eye very sore got
bandaged up twice I
went to a concert at
night (scaled out & nearly
got caught) by the 'Magpies'
very good indeed
JULY, 1918.
Wednesday 31
Left. 24th Kantara & took
boat up the canal to
14th A.G.H.; bonzer trip
up, on water, (4 hours)
(in West 3 ward); saw a lot
of the old 1st Regt chaps
& M.G.S hospital seems
full of them.
Sent to lecture on
Dead Sea & Jordan Valley
