Had a concerts behind
the trenches: one of
the funniest I have
ever heard; of course
being just a few there
were some rather
"Montarde" items
rendered, but on the
whole quite presentable

Nothing of importance
usual routine.

Capt Cunningham & [[?]] others
came out with gift canteen
stuff & wine for us
we gave some of the
tucker to "Bsq' & wine

Saturday 19
Quiet day; usual
routine: the official
photographer came over
our position and took
several photos of the
surroundings.

Sunday 20
Drew rations early
and packed up for
move back to rejoin
Brigade; New Zealanders
relieved us about 12 & then
we went back to the
horses & went back
as far as Midia and
camped the night.

Monday 21
Left Merdia early
came with limbers
which were a little trouble
because of the load & rough
road: came through
Lamle & on out to Richon
arriving fairly late

1st Reg. played scratch

Got some of the horses

went over to 2nd Bgde
sports: saw quite a lot
of the lads I knew: quite
a good days sport.

Friday 25
Went on NCO class
at 2nd Regt. started right
off scratch. Pretty crook
after 3½ years of it to
begin as a recruit again
'Refresher" as the Heads called
it.

Saturday 26
Went on N.C. O's instruction at
class to 2nd Regt. pretty
[[?]] 2 hours: drew ration
Went over to 1st Regt.
saw [[Jon?]] Brett & Ged

Sunday 27
Preparing to go on Leave
to Cairo. Repacked at
B H.Q [[?]] & proceeded
to Kilo [[?]]; caught
train & left at 4: travelled
most of night: periodical
showers; in covered
in trucks - water leaked
through roof and flooded
us out; cruelly cold
windy night; no
shelter.

Arrived at Kantara
7.35; still looked showery.
had breakfast
at Soldiers Club (Mrs Chisholm)
& caught train
for Cairo 9.15
Arrived in Cairo at
0200 and bought a lot
of [[?]]. booked up at
Anzac. quiet night
pretty tired after trip.

Buy shopping for the
lads in the morning
Went round & had
dinner with Mme Piot
& a dance afterwards
[[took round?]]. "When you
come home" & sang it
among others

Wrote No 99. P.C.

Wednesday 30
Had busy morning
went to the Rare Bits
with Mme Piot and Renee
at night; had quite an
enjoyable night; and
turned in early

Thursday 31
Did some shopping
& bought some thing
to send Home; went
out to dinner with
Mrs Branch; a very
nice evening, met
Miss Saunders & Mr &
Mrs Hogan.

Friday I
Got my photos at
Schoucaires; in morning
got a photo frame for [[Lo0?]]
Then out to Materea
with Mrs Rishman
got snaps of the
Obelisque, Virgins tree
& well; said the church
[[?]] back to Cairo
with Mrs Rickman, then
went out to Heliopolis
again & had dinner
with Mrs Walker
FEBRUARY, 1918.
Saturday 2
Did shopping nearly
all day; met [[?]] at
St. James 'Cape' and
had dinner & afterwards
went to see The girl in
the Taxi at the Kursaal
Sent a parcil to dint.
Family and [[?]] Rose.
Had supper at the
Anzac.
Wrote 100 Enid
FEBRUARY, 1918.
Sunday 3
Had lunch with
Madame Piot, met
Billy Campbell at 3
and went for a spin
to Delta Barage; when
we got back went
to the Kelso pictures.
after that we had
dinner at the Petrograd
and them we separated
I went to the pictures
at the Piccadilly with
a couple of H.L.Is.
arrived home about
11.30
Got photo frame for
Mme Piot.
