JANUARY, 1918.
Tuesday 1
Camped at Esdud; raining
periodically, a very cold
wind blowing:
Called out on a 'delousing'
parade after dinner;
put all our clothes through
the fumigator:
Laurie Smith returned
from Cairo.
JANUARY 1918.
Wednesday 2
Moved camp about
700 yards; near the
1st Field Ambulance.
Busy day, got some
bakseesh, stuff from
Y.M.C.A.
JANUARY, 1918.
Thursday 3
Very warm day: rumours
about a move: usual
routine, drawing rations
etc. drew a lot of new
clothing etc: prior to
move.
JANUARY, 1918.
Friday 4
Left Esdud with
2nd Regt. with 1 - 4 & 5
Sections and proceeded
to Ras Duran: had to
wait for limbers, camped
the night at Ras Duran
JANUARY, 1918.
Saturday 5
Left Duran early &
proceeded to relieve the
4th Bgde at Nalin very
hilly, followed up one
ravine for miles into
the hills
Took over position late
and sent horses back
Did not have time to
erect our Bivvys; and
got sopping wet; cruel
weather: did last shift
on gun: and then went
down to bottom of hill
to draw rations
Very Hilly & huge boulders
everywhere.
JANUARY, 1918.
Sunday 6
Rained like 'Blue Blazes'
lot of messing about
in the slush, and
last shift on gun
and drew rations
Slush everywhere.
Found favourable &
erected bivvys on flat
rock and used a
lot of olive leaves &
prickly bushes for
matress.
Did from 6 - 12 on gun
at night

Monday 7
Weather started to clear
up: we got some of our
blankets fairly dry; but
it kept showery all day.
JANUARY, 1918.
Tuesday 8
Drew Rations, clear
day brought up 10,000
rounds SAA to our
guns.
JANUARY, 1918.
Wednesday 9
Drew Rations, quiet day
got sheep from Bedouins
the lads were escorted
back by 6 Leinster (Irish
Bgde) chaps who thought
it a great joke.

Thursday 10
Changed gun position
also camp from the
"Saddle" to Franklins
Fort with B.Sq. 2nd Reg.
very fine view from there
Fixed up camp & stayed
there,
JANUARY, 1918.
Friday 11
Usual routine; looked
like rain in evening.
& poured before daylight: fixed
up our Bivvy with drains
etc: but it kept us pretty
dry.
JANUARY, 1918.
Saturday 12
Drawing Rations, rained
all day, got good mail
from Squadron.
Got Reg Letter from Mother
with £4; parcel from
Gussie.
JANUARY, 1918.
Sunday 13
Still raining; usual
routine; wrote some
letters & played bridge.
No 9v.
JANUARY, 1918.
Monday 14
Very pleasant day
usual routine. but
otherwise quiet.
Had some gun shooting
in the morning. trying
some new belts
