Attended all classes.
preparing for first
exam; wrote up lectures
JULY, 1916.
Saturday 1
Had first exam came
out with 90%; went out
to Ghiza but found
Mr Branch had gone
to Alexandria; went
back to Cairo and
sent them a telegram
Waited in town till
it was time to go to
Keirsaal; lost little diary.

Sunday 2
Church parade in
morning: went down
to Heliopolis at night
went down to see Mrs
Walker and delivered
Bill Ahern's letter.
Wrote Home & Jess (55) also
Mrs Branch.

Monday 3
usual class, didnot
go out at night wrote
up lectures & Mechanism.
fagging for exam

Tuesday 4
Went through exam
got 91%, didnot go out
at night wrote up
exercise till bedtime.

Usual class all day.
went down to Heliopolis
to get films. fairly warm
day.

Thursday 6
Usual classes, very quiet
day; wrote up lectures
at night; trench digging
in the morning

Friday 7
Usual classes; fagging
up for exam. Mechanism.
went up to Heliopolis
and went to Pyramids
Bar and saw entertainment

Saturday 8
Went through examination
and got 91%for mechanism:
went up to Heliopolis
and saw Mr & Mrs Walker
had very nice evening
went out for a long ride
in Mr Walker car; stayed
to dinner and left about
10.30 and came home.
wrote home [shorthand] and Lucie,
took photos of.
Catholic Church, Palace.
and Mulliards tomb.
JULY, 1916.
Sunday 9
Church parade, in morning
got leave for Cairo. went
out to Giza. First to Mrs Branch
and then onto the Zoo.
and took some photos.
Afterwards I went into
Cairo I saw the Kursaal
from 630 till 8.30 then
went down to the Ez Bekhin
Garden to hear the Welsh
Band contest.
Got home at 10.30

Monday 10.
Usual classes, went
up to Heliopolis got
watch fixed with illuminated
face: went
to Pyramids Bar [[Howard?]]

Tuesday 11
Nothing doing; wrote
up lectures at night.

Wednesday 12
Took films up to
Kodaks to be fixed
up.
JULY, 1916.
Thursday 13
Got leave from 5 -12 met
Mrs Branch at train
terminus, had dinner
at Continental; went
to pictures afterwards.
stayed till 12 then came
home
Handed in Books for
examination.

Friday 14
Had technical Handling
and Stoppage
exams in morning.
92% Handling and 85% for
Stoppages
Rifle Inspection 2.30
leave & went down
Mrs Walkers.
1st Class Pass. 91%
JULY, 1916.
Saturday 15
Revaille at 4.30, breakfast
at 5.30 Caught train at
Helinea for Kantara
at 8.30 very hot trip
had no [[feleuse?]] to
buy tucker.
Got to Kantara at
2.35 and went across
Canal to Railway for
Romani, got there
fairly late, had to
walk back to camp
about 1½ miles through
soft sand, 'musquia"
after hard roads.

Church Parade in morning
otherwise all quiet.
Very tired, slept as much
as possible

Monday 17
Squadron out on outpost
to Ogratina & Qâtia;
Day stableman wrote
Home & Jess [*shorthand*] . Aunt Agnes,
and Elsie
Got mail 14 letters..,Picquet
at night.

Tuesday 18
Transferred into The
Machine Gun Squadron
spent all day getting
things fixed up.
got 17 more letters.
Wrote Mollie.
JULY, 1916.
Wednesday 19
Just doing fatigues
round camp all day.
went over to palms and
cut some date palms for
horse lines.
Wrote Theo and Lucie.
Expecting some fun: Turks
advancing from Ogratina
everything ready to move out
at any minute.
