Nothing doing
first leave party
turned up at
2.30 got my togs
ready to come away
on leave

Monday 9
Left Kantara 9-15
to catch Cairo express
arrived at Cairo
& went straight
to Robert Hughes
bought bogs
Went on to Giza
& found Mrs Branch
at home
Col Onslow came
out & we went to
Pyramids in the
moonlight; very
nice ride
OCTOBER,1916.
Tuesday 10
Mrs Branch worried
with toothe ache so
we went into see the
dentist; & then on
to Madame Piots for
tea. not a couple nice
little girls; also
Mrs Rickman & Keith
Slade
Had dance in the
hall.

Wednesday 11
Did not go out; took
some photos; went
into town with
Mr & Mrs Branch &
saw "See whose here"
at the Kursaal;
arrived home very late

Thursday 12
Had to stay about
place as no pass.
but Keith Slade came
out in the evening
and also major
Grimwood, of the
10th L.H. such a fine
Chap.

Friday 13
Had visitors practically
Miss Wells
come out & stayed to
lunch, & Col Onslow
& Lieut Bundock in
afternoon. Mr & Mrs
Branch went into
Cairo at night.
Wrote "Blue Eyes"

Saturday 14
Went out to No 14 A.G.H.
and saw Frank M.C.
Longworth & several
other old boys, went
on out to Heliopolis
to see Mrs Walker & then
got back in time
to see Mr & Mrs Branch
off for Luxor;
Went to the Asin Anzac
Hostel to a concert
immediately afterwards
& then to the pictures
& got home about 12.30

Went into Cairo
in evening & had
afternoon tea with
Madame Piot &
stayed the night
Had a glorious nights
dancing. took MmQ.
Madaline home : &
returned home very
happy & contented
with the whole world.

Monday 16
Caught 11 oclock
train from Main Station.
met Murgha Mack
& brought a letter back
for him: came back
from the station on
limber.

Feeling very crook all
day: nothing at all
of any importance
on: did some gun
drill in afternoon
paraded sick & got
some medicine.

Cleaned saddles in
morning. gun drill

over to regiment at night
Colonel Granville gave
all the officers a dinner
at Continental 2nd
anniversary of our
leaving Sydney.

had a late tea

for Machine Gun Musketry
had a very nice day
on the range
Had a very exciting
competition with the
other sections.

Did transport work
for range had to go
out early; packed
up our Kit.

dress parade with
full kit; Kit bags
all packed & stacked
