16 MECREDI.

Attended by the Brigade Major and Capt Paterson

I inspected the 35 Bn at MERELESART I was a bit

disappointed with them. They have certainly fallen

off in smartness and discipline a bit. Not much

to find fault with, but I left the parade with

a feeling of disappointment. While though so

good in the line, is always the farmer and cannot

understand the niceties and their necessity. The

psychology of the man does not appeal to him I

think.

Did not feel over well in the afternoon. In the

afternoon I did not work well. I walked round the

grounds of the chateau for a bit. They are very

beautiful with their autumn tints.

At 5.30. I motored over to HALLENCOURT with Madam

des Forts & her son & daughter to see the Div Perolt who

were giving a show there. I found it a bit tedious.

The des Forts had dinner with us. on our return - Capt

Jackson was in attendance.

Papers left midnight. then turned in
