Officer to new area.
Visited 34' Bn Headqrs. ROMARIN
Saw Col Martin & Major Fry.
Then to CANTEEN CORNER; BULFORD,
(EMU) CAMP thence to KORTYPYP 1&2
thence to 5t Brigade Hqrs TROIS ROIS
General Smythe still in bed.
Back Hqrs about 10.30 & on
Brigade March in afternoon.
Inspected it at starting point
OUTTERSTEENE Good turn out same
35th on road later they looked fine
At defence scheme re till late

By car to KORTYPYP Saw Major
McCallum (Bde Major 5th Bde) He
was able give me no information re
Corps Line Defence re as only just
there. General Smythe was out.
Called at CANTEEN corner where old
17th are. They were on parade - I
went round the lines and had a chat
with the few old Gallipoli men
still remaining. Martin was in
command. Saw F russell, Harriet
Barnett.

The Brigade less 39 Bn marched to
KORTYPYP Generals Birdwood, White
and Monash saw them pass through
BALLIEUL Square but B & W arrived
just too late to see 35 go past as
they were leading.
Both General Birdwood and
General Monash complimented me
on progress Brigade had made
Bitterly cold foggy day. Hands
so cold could not hold the
reins - so Pain & I sent our horses
on and walked to KORTYPYP. Arrived
there 3.30 p.m.

Impressed on C.Os importance of
attention to working parties when we
move forward. As is careful reconnaissance
of Corps Zone, faults
on yesterdays march; Officer Messes,
General Birdwoods request to give
horses chance to get picking of green
food. Also visited Transport Line
and battn
Very cold day.

up at Headquarters and
discussed Corps Zone.
3. Sunday.
Brigade Church Parade at KORTYPYP
Generals Birdwood, Monash and
Rosenthal. Former presented
medals as on next page and
addressed troops.
Col Clogslain had arrived and in
afternoon discussed work on Corps
line. Feeling absolutely rotten
with trench fever. It first got
Major Dunlop and then Captain
Sutor - both of whom are down w
it. →

of rations.
Feel very ill with fever.

Colonels and some Brigade Majors
Quartered in empty hotel on beach..

Very wet. B.M. went to see Clogston Brigade School
in morning.
Major Urcich called Bde Hqrs 4. pm

Gen. Rosenthal returned to Bde. 9.30. pm and
proceeds to England on short leave tomorrow
Discussed proposed Bde raid with him. This
was put up by Division but so far I have
heard nothing from them direct.
Turned in midnight.
Raiding parties probably divided with him
33&34 and 35&36 division each Bn
5 Officers and 80 others. C.O. to be selected.
My dear General.
Many thanks for your report on
the attempt of the enemy to raid gun
33h. Bn on the 25th. The result has given
you the required identification and I
am glad to hear that owing to Lt. Col
Morshead's change of disposition and
the actions of our men the enemy
casualties cost us very little.
