ORDER OF ST. MICHAEL & ST. GEORGE.
May 28, 1919.
The Prelate to Knights Grand Cross.
The Prelate begs to inform Knights Grand Cross of certain details in
connection with the Service on June 2nd.
Mantles. Every effort has been made, and is being made, to obtain
sufficient Mantles for all G.C.M.Gs. who hope to be present, but it
is doubtful whether all can be supplied, for some 15 G.C.M.Gs. have
applied for them. Messrs. Ede and Ravenscroft have actually made
three new Mantles and are doing their best to get as many lent as
possible.
Knights Grand Cross who are Serving Officers, and who have failed
to obtain Mantles, should wear Service Dress and take part in the
Procession.
Knights Grand Cross who had failed to obtain Mantles and are not
Serving Officers should come to the South Aisle of the Choir,
whence they will be conducted to seats in the Choir.
Vesting with Mantles.
Messrs. Ede and Ravenscroft are sending several members of
their staff to vest Knights Grand Cross in their Mantles, or to
correct anything amiss if they come in Mantles and desire further
assistance. They will be in the South Aisle of the Choir by 11 a.m.
for the purpose. Mantles can be sent beforehand, if desired, to
Messrs. Ede and Ravenscroft, or to St. Paul's to the charge of the
Chief Verger.
The Chapel.
A complete list of those who form the Procession and if possible
in the right order will be in the seats in the Chapel in
order to facilitate the formation of the Procession without a
moment's delay. The prelate respectfully suggests that all
should be in their places in the Chapel not later than 11.45 am.
All who are in the Procession will be seated in the Choir.
At the conclusion of the Service the Procession of Knights Grand
Cross will be formed in reverse order to proceed to the West
Door. The officers will conduct the Grand Master to his
carriage.

Remarks of King George V
on my Investiture as G.C.M.G.
I am glad to have this opportunity
of thanking you on behalf of myself &
the Nation for your eminent and
distinguished services throughout the
War. - You were Commander of a
Brigade in Gallipoli, were you not?
and then you rose till you received
the command of that magnificent
Army Corps which did such
wonderful and decisive work?
That is a splendid record! - I have
much pleasure in recognizing your services
by creating you a Knight Grand Cross.
I hope you will come & see me again
before you leave for your home.

My dear General,
Re Pte. G. LEGGE.
In reply to yours of 26th inst., I enclose a memo
from Colonel Wiltshire, giving the latest and only information
possible.
I have to-day personally seen General Robertson,
but Colonel Wiltshire is away on leave.
General Robertson assures me that neither he nor
Colonel Wiltshire have any knowledge of any exhumation of
the body of Pte. Legge. I certainly know nothing of
any such occurrence. Captain Millar, Divisional Bombing
Office, 2nd Australian Division, was the Officer who buried
Pte. Legge and gave the particulars.
I understand he is somewhere in England in Hospital
and am finding out his whereabouts. I will try to get
further information from him and advise you as soon as possible.
Yours sincerely,
Charles Rosenthal

ORDER OF ST. MICHAEL & ST. GEORGE.
May 30, 1919.
The Prelate to Knights Grand Cross.
On Thursday May 29 the following order was received at the
Chancery:-
"G.C.M.Gs. not wearing Service Dress may wear SLevee Dress
under Mantles".
It will be seen that this is a reversal, and a welcome one,
of the commands given at the rehearsal on Wednesday, May 28.
It is now clear that Service Dress or Levee Dress are permitted
under Mantles. Knights Grand Cross who have no Mantles or
Service Dress are requested to come to the South Aisle of the
Choir, when they will be conducted to good seats reserved for them
in the Choir.
The Chapel. Knights Grand Cross taking part in the procession are
requested to be in their seats in the Chapel full early. Those who
have Stalls will find them reserved for them.
The Procession will be arranged in order of seniority, and the
Gentlemen Ushers will need the assistance of all the Knights if
there is to be no delay in starting the Procession. Lists of all
in the Procession will be found in the Chapel giving the order of
seniority.
Opening of the Doors. The papers contain an announcement that the
doors of the Cathedral open at 10.45 a.m. so as to ensure that all
may be in their places in the Cathedral by 11.30 a.m.
May 30, 1919.
The following order has just been received from the Lord Chamberlain's
office for publication in the press..
Central Chancery of the Orders
of Knighthood,
St. James' Palace, S.W.1.
The King has been graciously pleased to approve of Knights
Grand Cross who are not entitled to wear Service Dress and who
attend the Service of Installation of the Prince of Wales as
Grand Master of the Order of St. Michael and St. George at
St. Paul's Cathedral on Monday, June 2nd, wearing Levee Dress,
with trousers, underneath the Mantle and Collar.

ABOUT
GRAVE OF PTE. GEORGE LEGGE, 22nd BATTALION.
This man was killed in action on October 4th, 1918,
and was buried near Beaurevoir Map Location Sheet 62 B.
1/40,000 B17 d00.20. A cross was erected over his grave
bearing his name and the Battalion colors. The grave is
situated, roughly, 1,500 yards Sout-East of Beaurevoir. It has
not been registered by the D.G.R.E. nor have any photos been
taken.
In due course the D.G.R.E. will register the grave
and in the normal way 2 copies of the photo will be sent to
his Next of Kin. Records show that he was buried by the
Divisional Bombing Officer of the 2nd Australian Division,
Captain F. Miller, M.C. 22nd Battalion. I have written to
another Officer asking him if he could put me in touch with
Miler, or if he could supply me with any further information
about Legge's burial.
