mrt3 NOTES ON A CONFERENCE HELD AT 54 VICTORIA STREET, 1.4.19. -------------- Present . D.G, D.D.G, Major Norman and Major Ryan. 1. The first matter discussed was the repatriation of Dependants. 2. D.G. stated that the first consideration was shipping space. Priority of passage must be given to actual members of A.I.F. Wives and dependants must be considered later. 3. D.G. stated that the second consideration was the defimition of the term "Dependant". (a) Legal Dependants.- i.e., Wife, widow and children whether legitimate or not. This became a (b) Dependants other than these. question of fact. A mother or sister might in fact be a dependant. (c) There was then the question of degree of dependency. A sister might be more dependent on a man than the man's wife. 4. D.G. directed that Major Norman should submit a minute on the subject of Dependants for the Minister of Defence. 5. The Conference then discussed the question of Australian Women War Workers in England.- i.e., Non-dependants. 6.
