With reference to Circ. Memo. DAG.AIF. 6/0/29 of 26th inst. relative tõ the grant of 75 days' leave to the United Kingdom and other placos in lieu of spécial furlough to Australia, this leave will be continuous and officers and other ranks volun- tarily returning to duty before tho expiration of the 75 days will forfeit the romainder of the leave. All ranks are to be informed of this condition before procoeding on leave. In special cases whero the interests of the service will be sorved by the leave being taken in two or threo periods application may be made to H.Q., Aust. Corps and, if recommended, be forwarded to this office for approval. Such applications will normally only be made in the case of officers holding high Commands or important staff appointments and must be submitted for Consid- cration before the first pe-riod of leave is taken. Approval will only bo granted in special casos where the requirements of the ser- vice render such a Course desirable and not on personal grounds. In Cases where approval is given officers will proceed on leave out of the ordinary allotment on the first ocCasion only. Corps School. ----------------------- Conference of Inspector-General of Training with the Australian Corps. ------ --- 1.- With reference to this office letter 188/1/1297 dated 19th October, a Corps Conference on training matters will be held at 1430 on November 5th at H.Q. 1st Australian Division, LONG. 2.- The object of the Conference is to enable the Inspector-General of Training, Lieut-General Sir I.MAXSE, K.C.B., c.V.O., D.S.O. to make the acquaintance of the senior commanders of the Corps, to sit round a table with them, and to discuss any points of organisation and training which they would like to bring forward. 3.- The Corps Commander will preside and it is desired that the following should attend. Divisional Commanders. Cs.R.A. G.S.Os. I. Infantry Brigade Commanders. 4.- The agenda will deal with:- (i) How to apply a permanent organisation of platoons to fluctuating numbers of men. (ii) Why a permanent and definite organisation is desirable. (iii) How to make this organisation elastio during tactical operations in the field. 1. With reference to D.A.G., A.I.F. Circular Memo • 6/0/29

of 26.10.1918, officers granted 75 days' leave to U. K. or elsewhere

will only be replaced and temporary [[?]] ranks will be

necessary.

2. Staff officers will be replaced on the same principles

as those who proceed to Staff Schools at Cambridge.

3. Recommendations for replacement of or grant of temporary

rank in place of officers proceeding on this leave will be submitted

by Divisions as follows -

(a) Regimental officers or rank of Major and below to
D.A.G., A.I.F.;

(b) Commanders, Commanding Officers and Staff officers to

H.Q., Aust. Corps who will, when any action by

the C.O.G., A.I.F. is considered necessary, submit

the matter with a recommendation to D.A.G.,

A.I.F.

4. Recommendations from units not serving in the Aust. Corps

will be submitted direct to D.A.G., A.I.F.

5. Officers granted this leave will retain any temporary

ranks which they hold at the time of the granting of such leave

except those who have since 15th September, 1918, been given their

temporary ranks to replace officers who have proceeded on furlough

to Australia or on 75 days' special leave to U.K. or elsewhere.

SPECIAL LEAVE TO U.K. IN LIEU OF FURLOUGH TO

AUSTRALIA.

With reference to Circ. Memo. DAG.AIF. 6/0/29 of

26th inst. relative to the grant of 75 days' leave to the United

Kingdom and other places in lieu of special furlough to Australia,

this leave will be continuous and officers and other ranks voluntarily

returning to duty before the expiration of the 75 days will

forfeit the remainder of the leave. All ranks are to be informed

of this condition before proceeding on leave.

In special cases where the interests of the service

will be served by the leave being taken in two or three periods

application may be made to H.Q., Aust. Corps and, if recommended,

be forwarded to this office for approval. Such applications will
