Infantry i.e.,
an average Bn. strength of 605.
(A) During the period 7-9-18 to 12-9-18, this deficiency has been
reduced to 15,894 (i.e., by 981), but this is approximately balanced
by the 700 Other Ranks now leaving for AUSTRALIA.
In addition to the fit reinforcements in ENGLAND and FRANCE
shown above, there were also in Command Depots in ENGLAND on 7-9-18,
10,505 Other Ranks, some of whom are awaiting transport to AUSTRALIA,
but a number of whom will in due course rejoin their Units. This
figure 10,505 does not include a further 2629 Other Ranks who are
definitely marked for AUSTRALIA.
There have also occurred since 8-8-18 approximately 13,000
battle casualties and 4,000 sick casualties, a large number of whom
will still be in hospitals and will not yet have reached the
Command Depots. The normal hospital "floating population is much
less than this.
