short nature is fully
realised but the orders
from GHQ received so
very suddenly yesterday were
telephoned to you immediately
aaa you will now
have received my special
DR letter giving complete
details aaa I feel
that it would be
wrong to miss this
opportunity and allow the
ship to sail empty
aaa because a large
number of well deserving
men cannot take this

Casualties
It would be quite impossible for the corps to
carry its records and statistics about with it in the
field. It consequently keeps no records: This
is done in the Third Echelon of A.H.Q. (Aust. Section).
Divisions report their casualties direct to the
Third Echelon G.H.Q. and the latter replaces
them by reinforcements. Copies of the ^daily casualty
reports are sent to Corps H.Q. for the information
of the Corps Commander - vide book sent
herewith - but no record beyond this, is and
the weekly summary which accompanies the
book are kept up: this is the duty of the
third Echelon G.H.Q. not of Corps.
